Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships

The Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships is an event open to all national World Bowling member federations, which participate in tenpin bowling and are countries within the Commonwealth or all national tenpin bowling federations and/or associations (Non-WB) who are within the Commonwealth and participate in tenpin bowling. [1] Eligible members send two men and two women to compete for medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Team, All-Events, and Masters.

Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation

The CTBF was founded on August 28, 2002 in Stirling, Scotland. [1] CTBF was created to foster a greater and more focused interest in tenpin bowling and international friendship between all nations within the Commonwealth. [1] The CTBF will affiliate to the sport’s international governing body, World Bowling, with its prime focus being to successfully stage Commonwealth Championships that will ultimately meld into the official Commonwealth Games program. History

Stirling 2002

The inaugural Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Stirling, Scotland. England won seven out of a possible ten gold medals. Donna Adams won gold in singles, all-events, masters, mixed doubles, and team. India's Shaik Abdul Hameed won two gold medals, in singles and masters. [3]

Paphos 2005

The second Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Paphos, Cyprus. Malaysia won six out of a possible ten gold medals. Shalin Zulkifli won gold in all-events, masters, mixed doubles, and team. [4]

Melbourne 2006

The third Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Melbourne, Australia. England won five gold medals, but Australia won the most medals, with eleven (three gold, four silver, and four bronze). England's Fiona Banks won gold in doubles, masters, and mixed doubles. [5]

Belfast 2008

The fourth Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Belfast, Northern Ireland. England and Malaysia each won four gold medals, with Singapore winning the remaining two gold medals. [6]

Kuala Lumpur 2011

The fifth Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Three nations dominated this edition, with Singapore winning four gold medals and three each for England and Malaysia. [7]

Auckland 2013

The sixth Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Auckland, New Zealand. Australia won four gold medals, three by Sam Cooley in singles, all-events, and masters. [8]

Johannesburg 2016

The seventh Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships were held in Johannesburg, South Africa from November 19-27. Malaysia won seven of the ten events and led the medal tally with 13 (7 gold, 5 silver, 1 bronze). Malaysia's Muhammad Nur Aiman won four gold medals (Singles, All-Events, Masters, Mixed Team Event) and a silver medal (Doubles). [9]

Gillian Margaret Clark, is a former English badminton player who specialized in doubles and is currently a badminton television commentator.

Shalin Zulkifli is a Malaysian professional ten pin bowler and former Asian No. 1. She has played and won various national and international tournaments, and has at various points in her career ranked No. 1 of the professional ten pin bowlers in Malaysia and Asia. During 2001 World Tenpin Masters event, she became the first female champion of this event, defeating Finland's Tore Torgersen in the finals. In 2004, she was inductee into International Bowling Hall of Fame. Bowling in the USA, she was a quarterfinalist at the 2008 US Women's Open, and competed in the 2008-09 PBA Women's Series.

Nicholas 'Nick' Ponting is a former professional badminton player from England.

John David Eddy is a retired badminton player from England who won national and international titles from the late 1960s to the early 1980s.

Bong Coo Filipino ten-pin bowler

The Mediterranean Challenge Cup, now known as the Mediterranean Bowling Championships, is a ten-pin bowling competition for the federations around Mediterranean Sea. It is recognised by the World Bowling,[European Tenpin Bowling Federation]] and is played since 1998. Each eligible federation sends two men and two women to compete for medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Teams, All-Events and Masters.

Chan Peng Soon Badminton player

Chan Peng Soon is a Malaysian professional badminton player specialised in the mixed doubles event. He is best known for his partnership with Goh Liu Ying where they have been consistently ranked among the top 10 mixed doubles pair in the world. Chan and Goh reached their career high ranking of world No. 3 in 2013 and won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

India at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games

India competed at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games held in the Isle of Man from 7 to 13 September 2011. India has participated in all the editions of the Commonwealth Youth Games. The nation was represented by the Indian Olympic Association, which is responsible for the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games in India.

Bowling in India

Tenpin bowling is a popular and recreational sport in India. The activity is administered by the Bangalore-based Tenpin Bowling Federation of India. It organises the National Bowling League comprising championships for amateurs, corporate team tournaments as well as a national tour for professionals. Many Indians take up bowling for fitness, rather than for recreation. Bowling alleys in India are commonly a part of multiplexes and malls.

Tan Wee Kiong Badminton player

Tan Wee Kiong is a Malaysian professional badminton player in the doubles event. He began partnership with his current partner, Goh V Shem at the 2014 Thomas Cup. Together, Tan and Goh won the gold medal in the men's doubles and the mixed team event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. They also won bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. In their Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, they won the silver medal, becoming the first Malaysian pair to achieve such a feat since 1996. In November 2016, they reached a career-high ranking of world number 1, making them the third ever Malaysian men's doubles pair to do so.

Arianne Cerdeña is a World Ten-pin bowling Champion from the Philippines. She won for the Philippines its first gold medal in the Summer Olympics. She won the medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics, though bowling was only a demonstration sport. She was elected by the World Bowling Writers female "World Bowler" in 1988.

Cathy Townsend was a Canadian ten-pin bowler. Townsend became one of the first Canadian women to win gold at the World Bowling American Zone Championships in 1974. The following year, she was the first woman of Canada to win the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. Townsend was inducted into the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 and the Canadian Tenpin Federation Hall of Fame in 1994.
