The 2022 Men's European Water Polo Championship was the 35th running of the tournament. It was held in the Spaladium Arena in Split, Croatia from 29 August to 10 September 2022. [1]
Croatia won their second title by defeating Hungary in the final, meanwhile Spain beat Italy to secure the bronze medal. [2]
LEN announced on 28 August 2020 that Split, Croatia would host the 2022 edition of the competition. All games will be played at the Spaladium Arena. [1]

Russia was excluded due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. [5]
The sixteen teams were split in four groups with four teams each. From there on, a knockout system was used. The first classified team of each group directly qualified for the quarterfinals, the second and third teams played each other in cross group format to qualify for the quarterfinals. [6]

Dénes Andor Varga is a Hungarian professional water polo player, currently playing for Ferencváros.
The water polo tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center in Kōtō. Twenty-two teams competed in the tournament, an increase of two from the previous editions. Men's Water polo was also the last final played before the closing ceremony.
The 2016 Women's Water Polo Olympic Qualification Tournament was held at the Groenhovenbad in Gouda, Netherlands, from 21 to 28 March 2016. The top four teams advanced to the Olympics. The mascot of the event was an orange lion in blue clothes called Swimba.
The men's water polo tournament at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, organised by the FINA, was held in Budapest, Hungary from 17 to 29 July 2017.
The men's water polo tournament at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships, organised by the FINA, was held in Gwangju, South Korea from 15 to 27 July. This was the eighteenth time that the men's water polo tournament has been played since the first edition in 1973.

The tournaments of the qualifications for the 2022 Men's European Water Polo Championship were held between 17 and 20 February 2022. 17 teams, split into four groups, participated in the qualifications. The top two teams from each group advanced to the final tournament.
The tournaments of the qualifications for the 2022 Women's European Water Polo Championship were held between 17 February and 6 March 2022. 14 teams, split into three groups, played in the qualifications for the final tournament. The top two teams from each group advanced to the European Championships.

The 2024 Men's European Water Polo Championship is the 36th edition of this tournament. It is held in Dubrovnik and Zagreb, Croatia from 4 to 16 January 2024. Originally, Israel had been selected as host and the competition was slated to be held in Netanya, from 3 to 16 January 2024. Due to security concerns after the breakout of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, LEN announced the Championship would be hosted elsewhere.
The 2024 Women's European Water Polo Championship is the 20th edition of the tournament. It is held in Eindhoven, Netherlands from 5 to 13 January 2024. It was scheduled to be held in Netanya, Israel, But the competition was taken away from Israel for security reasons after the 2023 Israel–Hamas war commenced. This edition will be the first one to be played by 16 teams.
