Juan Requesens Martínez is a deputy of the Venezuelan National Assembly, elected in 2015 and sworn in on 5 January 2016. He was a student leader at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), and a leader of student opposition protesters during the 2014 Venezuelan protests. He led marches opposing the Government of Venezuela under President Nicolás Maduro, seeking "to turn the student rebellion into a broader social movement".
Efecto Cocuyo is a Venezuelan journalism outlet devoted to independent media. The website was co-founded in January 2015 by Laura Weffer, former director of Venezuelan newspaper Diario 2001, Luz Mely Reyes, and Josefina Ruggiero, former content director of Cadena Capriles— award-winning journalists.
Regional elections were held in Venezuela on 15 October 2017 to elect the executive position of all 23 federal entities. This marked the first state executive election not held on the same date as elections for state legislatures, and the second separate from municipal elections. They were the 9th regional elections held in Venezuela since 1989.

During the crisis in Venezuela, governments of the United States, the European Union, Canada, Mexico, Panama and Switzerland have applied sanctions against Venezuela, as well as against specific government entities and individuals associated with the administration of Nicolás Maduro. The sanctions came in response to repression during the 2014 and the 2017 Venezuelan protests, and activities both during the 2017 Constituent Assembly election and the 2018 presidential election. According to a 2023 state sponsored poll, 74% of Venezuelans do not support the sanctions.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Venezuela was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The first two cases in Venezuela were confirmed on 13 March 2020; the first death was reported on 26 March. However, the first record of a patient claiming to have symptoms of coronavirus disease dates back to 29 February 2020, with government officials suspecting that the first person carrying the virus could have entered the country as early as 25 February.

José Curiel was a Venezuelan politician. A member of Copei, he served as Governor of Falcón from 1996 to 2000. He died in Caracas on 8 January 2022, at the age of 84.
Elio Pietrini was an Argentine-born Venezuelan actor, mainly active in telenovelas.
Arnaldo Horacio Arocha Vargas was a Venezuelan politician. A member of Copei, he served as Governor of Miranda from 1971 to 1974 and again from 1990 to 1995. He also served in the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies from 1969 to 1974 and again from 1984 to 1989. He died on 8 February 2022, at the age of 85.
Ramón José Viloria Pinzón was a Venezuelan Roman Catholic prelate.
Luis Enrique Oberto González was a Venezuelan banker and politician who served in several high-ranking positions within the government of Venezuela. A member of COPEI, Oberto was a member of the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies from 1979 to 1999, serving as the president of the Chamber of Deputies from 1990 until 1994. Oberto also served as the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Planning in the government of Rafael Caldera. He then served in a number of academic positions after leaving politics.
