The 2023 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils baseball team was a baseball team that represented the Mississippi Valley State University in the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Delta Devils were members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and played their home games at Magnolia Field in Itta Bena, Mississippi. They were led by first-year head coach Milton Barney Jr.

Previous season

The Delta Devils finished the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball season 10–31–1 overall (4–25 conference) and sixth place in the west division of the conference standings, failing to qualify for the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament.

Preseason

On June 15, 2022, head coach Stanley Stubbs resigned due to health concerns. [2] On August 11, 2022, Milton Barney Jr. was named the head coach of the Delta Devils. [3]

The Delta Devils were led by third-year head coach Lindsey Hunter for the first 25 games of the season and by interim head coach George Ivory for the final three games of the season. They played their home games at the Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena, Mississippi as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 2–26, 2–13 in SWAC play to finish in last place. They failed to qualify for the SWAC tournament.

The Delta Devils finished the season 20–11, 10–4 in SWAC play to finish in 3rd pace. They won the SWAC Basketball tournament to earn the conference's automatic bid into the 1986 NCAA tournament – the first appearance in school history. As the No. 16 seed in the East Region, the Delta Devils played a tough game before falling to No. 1 overall seed and eventual National runner-up Duke in the opening round, 85–78.

The 2022 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils football team represented Mississippi Valley State University as a member of the East Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by Vincent Dancy in his fifth and final season as head coach, the Delta Devils compiled an overall record of 2–9 and a mark of 2–6 in conference play, tying for fifth place in the SWAC's East Division. Mississippi Valley State played home games at Rice–Totten Stadium in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

Milton Jeffery Barney Jr. is a baseball coach and former infielder, who served as the head baseball coach of the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. He played college baseball at Southern in 2007 and Grambling State from 2008 to 2010.
