The 2023 New Zealand Grand Prix event for open wheel racing cars was held at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in northern Waikato on 5 February 2023. It was the sixty-seventh New Zealand Grand Prix and utilised Formula Regional cars. The event also served as the third race of the fourth round of the 2023 Formula Regional Oceania Championship. This marked the Grand Prix's return after the 2022 iteration was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was the first to feature international drivers since 2020.

Contents

Dutch driver Laurens van Hoepen produced a shock victory in his debut weekend in the Formula Regional Oceania Championship. He won from the highly-fancied Louis Foster, with series leader Callum Hedge rounding out the podium.

Entry list

All drivers compete with identical Tatuus FT-60 chassis cars powered by 2.0L turbocharged Toyota engines. After the 2021 Grand Prix was run without any officially recognized teams, the event returned to a team-based format. [1]

Callum Hedge is a New Zealand racing driver who is currently competing in the 2023 Formula Regional Americas Championship season for Crosslink Kiwi Motorsports. A multiple-time national karting champion, he won the 2017–18 NZ Formula 1600 Championship and the 2018–19 Toyota Finance 86 Championship before switching to sports car racing with Porsche in 2020.

The 2023 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship was the inaugural season of the Formula Regional Oceania Championship. It was originally planned to be the eighteenth running of the Toyota Racing Series, the premier open-wheel motorsport category held in New Zealand, before the series was rebranded to become a fully FIA-certified Formula Regional championship. It was held over five consecutive weekends in January and February 2023.

The 2023 Japanese Super Formula Championship is the fifty-first season of premier Japanese open-wheel motor racing, and the eleventh under the moniker of Super Formula. It started in April 2023 and is due to be contested over seven race meetings. Tomoki Nojiri entered the season as the two-time and defending series champion.

The 2024 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship will be the second season of the Formula Regional Oceania Championship, and the nineteenth running of the premier open-wheel motorsport category formerly known as the Toyota Racing Series, held in New Zealand. It is scheduled to be held over five consecutive weekends in January and February of 2024.
