The 2024 Belo Horizonte municipal election took place in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil on 6 October 2024. Voters elected 41 councillors. A second round was held on October 27 as no candidate achieved 50% in the first round for mayor.
The incumbent mayor is Fuad Noman of the Social Democratic Party. Noman became mayor after the resignation of Alexandre Kalil to unsuccessfully run for governor of Minas Gerais in the 2022 Minas Gerais gubernatorial election. [1] [2]
State Deputy Bruno Engler of the Liberal Party, who achieved second place in 2020, and Noman advanced to a second round, defeating Mauro Tramonte of the Republicanos, the candidate of governor Romeu Zema. [3] [4]
Though Zema supported Engler in the second round, Noman was reelected in the second round, defeating Engler by a little less than 100,000 votes. [5] [6]

Romeu Zema Neto is a Brazilian businessman, administrator, and politician affiliated with the NOVO party. The current Governor of the state of Minas Gerais, Zema served as the head of the Zema Group, an industrial conglomerate, from 1990 to 2016. First elected in 2018, he won 42.73% of the valid votes, qualifying for a second round against Antônio Anastasia. Winning with 72.80% of the votes, he was inaugurated in 2019.
The 2020 São Paulo municipal election took place in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, with the first round taking place on 15 November 2020 and the second round taking place on 29 November 2020. Voters voted to elect the Mayor, the Vice Mayor and 55 city councillors for the administration of the city. The result was a 2nd round victory for incumbent Mayor Bruno Covas of the Brazilian Social Democratic Party (PSDB), winning 3,169,121 votes and a share of 59,38% of the popular vote, defeating political activist Guilherme Boulos of the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), who took 2,168,109 votes and a share of 40.62% of the popular vote.
Municipal elections took place in Brazil on 15 November 2020. Electors chose Mayors, Vice-Mayors and City Councillors of all 5,568 cities of the country. The partisan conventions took place between 31 August and 16 September. They were the first elections since Bolsonaro's election as President.

Popular Unity, also known as Popular Unity for Socialism, is a Brazilian political party founded on 16 June 2016, which had its right to launch candidacies recognized by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) on 10 December 2019. As a socialist party, it is connected to homeless workers' movements and defends the nationalization of the banking system, social control of all monopolies, capitalist consortia, and the means of production at-large, as well as rural land reform and collectivization.
The 2018 state elections in Minas Gerais were held on 7 October, as part of the general elections in the Federal District and in 26 states, to elect one Governor and Vice Governor, two Senators and four substitutes for Senator, 53 Federal Deputies, and 77 State Deputies. In the election for Governor, entrepreneur Romeu Zema (NOVO) finished in first place with 42.73% of the valid votes, followed by Senator Antonio Anastasia (PSDB) with 29.06%. Incumbent Governor Fernando Pimentel (PT) couldn't re-elect, placing third place with 23.12% of the votes. As the first place didn't reach 50% of the votes, a second round took place on 28 October. Zema was elect Governor with 71.80% of the votes, and Anastasia placed second with 28.20%.
The 2022 Minas Gerais state elections took place in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil on 2 October 2022. Voters elected a governor, vice governor, one senator, 53 representatives for the Chamber of Deputies, and 77 Legislative Assembly members. The incumbent governor, Romeu Zema, a member of the New Party, was eligible for a second term, and intended to run for reelection.
The 2020 Belo Horizonte municipal election took place in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, taking place on 15 November 2020 in a single round. Voters voted to elect the Mayor, the Vice Mayor and 41 city councillors for the administration of the city. The result was a single round victory for incumbent mayor Alexandre Kalil of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), winning 784,307 votes and a share of 63.36% of the popular, defeating state deputy Bruno Engler of the Brazilian Labour Renewal Party (PRTB), who took 123,215 votes and a share of 9.95% of the popular vote.
Adriane Barbosa Nogueira Lopes is a Brazilian politician, lawyer, theologian, entrepreneur and former public security agent who has served as the mayor of Campo Grande since 2022, being reelected in the 2024 elections and becoming the first woman elected chief executive of the city in the history of Campo Grande.
Fuad Jorge Noman Filho is a Brazilian writer, economist, and politician who is the current mayor of the city of Belo Horizonte, having taken office since 2022. He came into office after the resignation of former mayor Alexandre Kalil, to whom he had been the vice-mayor of from 2021 to 2022. He is currently affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
The 2024 Rio de Janeiro municipal election took place on 6 October 2024. Voters elected a mayor, vice mayor, and 51 city council members. The incumbent mayor, Eduardo Paes of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), was reelected with his second term to begin on 1 January 2025 and end on 31 December 2028.
Lorenzo Silva de Pazolini is a Brazilian former police chief and politician. He has been the mayor of the city of Vitória since 2021. Prior to becoming mayor, he was a state deputy in the state of Espírito Santo. He is a member of the Republicanos.
José Sarto Nogueira Moreira is a physician and a Brazilian politician affiliated to the Democratic Labour Party (PDT). He has been the mayor of Fortaleza, the capital city of Ceará since 2021.
The 2024 Porto Alegre mayoral election took place on 6 October 2024. Voters elected a mayor, a vice mayor, and 36 councillors. The incumbent mayor, Sebastião Melo, a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), was elected in 2020 for his first term and ran for reelection.
