The party was founded in 1997 by a coalition of former provincial Progressive Conservative and Liberal Party members who sought to unite opposition to the governing New Democratic Party. Jeremy Harrison is a Canadian politician who has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan since 2007, representing the electoral district of Meadow Lake as a member of the Saskatchewan Party. He has served in the cabinets of both Brad Wall and Scott Moe. Harrison was also the Conservative Member of Parliament for the federal district of Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River, a district that encompasses the northern half of the province of Saskatchewan, from 2004 to 2006.

Scott Moe is a Canadian politician serving as the 15th and current premier of Saskatchewan since February 2, 2018. He is a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the riding of Rosthern-Shellbrook, first elected in 2011. He served in the Saskatchewan Party cabinet from 2014 to 2017 under the premiership of Brad Wall, twice as minister of environment and also as minister of advanced education. In January 2018 he was chosen to succeed Wall as leader of the Saskatchewan Party. He led the party to a fifth consecutive majority government in the 2024 provincial election. Since becoming premier, Moe has consistently been ranked among the most popular first ministers in the country.

The 2016 Saskatchewan general election, was held on April 4, 2016, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Lieutenant Governor dissolved the Legislature on March 8, 2016, setting the election date for April 4. The election resulted in the Saskatchewan Party winning its third majority government. This is the first time in 90 years that a party other than the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) or its predecessor, the Saskatchewan Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) has won three consecutive majority governments in Saskatchewan. It is also the first time that a centre-right party has won three consecutive elections in the province.

Jennifer Bowes is a Canadian politician. Bowes was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 2020 Saskatchewan general election. She represented the electoral district of Saskatoon University as a member of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party caucus from 2020 to 2024.
