The 45th Kerala State Film Awards were presented by the chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy on 26 December 2015, with the presence of the chief guest Mohanlal. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Jury

The 10-member jury, headed by John Paul, was composed of people representing different areas of cinema: Directors : Bhadran (director), Suresh Unnithan and Balu Kiriyath, sound recordist Renjith, cameraman Sunny Joseph, Rajamani, G. Murali, S. Rajendran Nair, and producer M. M. Hamsa. The jury for writings on cinema was chaired by Satheesh Babu Payyannur. Raja Narayanan and A Padmanabhan were the other members of the panel. [3]

Until 1997, the awards were managed directly by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. Since 1998, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, an autonomous non-profit organisation functioning under the Department of Cultural Affairs, has been exercising control over the awards. The awardees, decided by a jury formed by the academy, are declared by the Minister for Cultural Affairs and are presented by the Chief Minister.

<i>Neram</i> 2013 film by Alphonse Puthren

Neram (transl. Time) is a 2013 Indian black comedy thriller film written, directed and edited by Alphonse Puthren in his directorial debut. It is simultaneously made in Malayalam and Tamil languages. It is an extended version of the short film of the same name, which he directed in 2009. It stars Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazim and Bobby Simha in both versions. Supporting roles were played by Manoj K. Jayan, Shammi Thilakan, Lalu Alex, and Willson Joseph in Malayalam version, while Nassar, Thambi Ramiah, John Vijay and Shabareesh Varma portrayed the characters in Tamil version.

Alphonse Puthren is an Indian film director, producer, actor, editor, writer, and ad film maker. He works mainly in the Malayalam Cinema. He made his directional debut with the critically acclaimed Malayalam - Tamil bilingual suspense-thriller Neram (2013). His second film was the sensational blockbuster coming-of-age romantic film Premam (2015). After 7 years, he came back with his new film titled Gold starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in the lead roles.

Ohm Shanthi Oshaana is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language coming-of-age romantic comedy film co-written and directed by Jude Anthany Joseph. The story was conceived by Midhun Manuel Thomas and he wrote the screenplay along with the director. It stars Nazriya Nazim, Nivin Pauly, and Vineeth Sreenivasan with Renji Panicker and Aju Varghese. Ohm Shanthi Oshaana was produced by Ananya Films and features music by Shaan Rahman.

<i>Oraalppokkam</i> Indian film

Oraalppokkam is a Malayalam film written and directed by Sanalkumar Sasidharan. It is the first Malayalam movie which has been produced through online crowdfunding program. This is an initiative of Kazhcha Chalachithra Vedi, a film society movement based in Thiruvananthapuram. Kazhcha has a history of producing short movies with the financial contribution from film lovers. Oraalppokkam is the fourth venture of Kazhcha. It is claimed that Oraalppokkam will be copyleft after 5 years from the date of release.

<i>Bangalore Days</i> 2014 film directed by Anjali Menon

Bangalore Days is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language coming of age romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Anjali Menon, and co-produced by Anwar Rasheed and Sophia Paul under the banner Anwar Rasheed Entertainments and Weekend Blockbusters. The film features an ensemble cast consisting of Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Isha Talwar and Paris Laxmi. Nithya Menen appears in a cameo. The plot revolves around three cousins from Kerala who move to Bangalore, continuing Menon's trend of films about family relationships. The film released on 30 May 2014 in 205 theatres, making it one of the biggest release for a Malayalam film, simultaneously all over India and received positive reviews.

<i>Njaan</i> 2014 Indian film

Njaan is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language period drama film directed by Ranjith with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, along with Jyothi Krishna, Anumol and newcomer Shruthi Ramachandran as the female leads. The movie is based on the novel K T N Kottur Ezhuthum Jeevithavum by T. P. Rajeevan, which is set in the backdrop of India's freedom struggle and depicts history of a Kerala village. The film released on 19 September 2014.

Apothecary is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language medical thriller film directed by Madhav Ramadasan, and produced by George Mathew and Baby Mathew under the banner of Arambankudiyil Cinemas. The film stars Suresh Gopi, Jayasurya, Asif Ali, Abhirami, Meera Nandan and Indrans.

<i>Premam</i> 2015 film by Alphonse Puthren

Premam is a 2015 Indian Malayalam-language coming of age romance film written, directed and edited by Alphonse Puthren. Produced by Anwar Rasheed, it features Nivin Pauly and Sai Pallavi in the prominent roles. The movie marks Pallavi's debut as the lead, after appearing as a junior artist, and also features an ensemble supporting cast including Madonna Sebastian, Anupama Parameswaran, Shabareesh Varma, Krishna Sankar, Siju Wilson, Ananth Nag, Vinay Forrt, Soubin Shahir, Sharafudheen and others. The plot follows George (Nivin) and his friends from their teens to adulthood. While George's first love turns out to be a disappointment, Malar (Pallavi), a college lecturer, rekindles his love interest. His romantic journey takes him through several stages, helping him find his purpose.

Neha Nair is an Indian playback singer and composer. Her debut was a duet with Job Kurian in the film Ritu, with music composed by Rahul Raj. She is a guest singer in the Malayalam rock band Avial.

<i>Ain</i> (film) 2015 Indian film

Ain is a 2015 Indian Malayalam-language film written and directed by Sidhartha Siva and starring Musthafa and Rachana Narayanankutty. Set in a Muslim household in Malabar, the film revolves around a lazy but innocent and vulnerable youth who happens to witness a murder and escapes to Mangalore. The film released in selected theatres in Kerala on 25 September 2015.

<i>Jacobinte Swargarajyam</i> Malayalam film

Jacobinte Swargarajyam is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language family-drama film written and directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and starring Nivin Pauly and Renji Panicker. The film revolves around Jacob Zacharia (Panicker) and the struggles faced by his son (Pauly) to clear his father's debts as his business associate cheats him. The film released on 8 April 2016 in India and later in foreign countries.
