The Minister of External Affairs is the head of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India. One of the senior-most offices in the union cabinet,the chief responsibility of the Minister of External Affairs is to represent India and its government in the international community. The Minister also plays an important role in determining the foreign policy. Occasionally,the Minister of External Affairs is assisted by a Minister of State for External Affairs or the lower-ranked Deputy Minister of External Affairs.

Syed Akbaruddin is a retired Indian diplomat from 1985 batch of the Indian Foreign Service and served as India's permanent representative at the United Nations at New York from January 2016 to April 2020. He had previously served as official spokesperson of India's Ministry of External Affairs from January 2012 to April 2015 and was Indian representative at IAEA from 2006 to 2011. He is currently serving as the dean of Kautilya School of Public Policy.
Indu Prakash Singh was an Indian philosopher,economist,politician,scholar,author and former diplomat with the Indian Foreign Service. He served as General Secretary of the Indian National Congress (Socialist) and was also a member of the National Executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was appointed as Indian Ambassador to Nepal in 2001. He died in office on 16 August 2002 after a long battle with cancer.

The Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs is an Indian government official whose primary responsibility is to serve as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs and to deal with other media affairs relating to Indian foreign policy. The spokesperson is usually a joint-secretary rank officer,and formally heads the External Publicity division in the Ministry.
