A. M. Ariff is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament representing Alappuzha constituency from 2019. A member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),he represented Aroor constituency in Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2019. Ariff made his first win from Aroor in 2006 defeating veteran political leader K. R. Gowri Amma. A. M. Ariff has been elected 3 times from Aroor to Kerala Legislative in the years 2006,2011 and 2016. Ariff was elected to Loksabha in 2019 from Alappuzha.
In a major electoral upset in the 2006 assembly elections,he defeated then-state Agriculture Minister and veteran politician K.R. Gouriamma. In the 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly Elections,he was placed third in the list of candidates who secured the most votes. In 2017,he was awarded the Best MLA in India Award by Kashmir to Kerala Social Foundation. In 17th Lok Sabha he is the only LDF and CPI(M) MP from Kerala.
Ariff began his active political life through student politics as a BSc degree student at Cherthala S.N. College where he was elected as College Union magazine editor and later,as chairman of the union. He subsequently held a series of positions in SFI as Cherthala area president,Alappuzha district secretary and finally became a state committee member of the student wing of the party. He later became a state committee member of DYFI,the youth wing of CPI(M). [1]
K. R. Gouri,born Kalathilparambil Raman Gouri, commonly known as Gouri Amma, was an Indian politician from Alappuzha in central Kerala. She was one of the most prominent leaders of the Left movement in India.

R. Selvaraj was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Neyyattinkara constituency,Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala,India. He was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),the present ruling party in Kerala but resigned from the Kerala Legislature and the party on 9 March 2012 and joined Indian National Congress party. His resignation was attributed to rampant factionalism in his party. After joining the Indian National Congress,he contested the by-election from Neyyattinkara on "Hand" symbol and romped home with a margin of 6,334 votes,pushing up the ruling UDF's slender majority in the 140-member Kerala Assembly to 73. He again contested from the same constituency in 2016 and 2021. but he got defeated in both elections,i.e. for 9543 votes in 2016 and it increased to 14262 votes in 2021. He was defeated by K. Ansalan of CPI(M) in both elections.

He was also the former Minister for Fisheries,Culture and Youth Affairs in the Second Vijayan ministry.Following a controversial speech in Mallappally in 2022 in which he spoke derisively of the Indian constitution,he resigned on July 6 amid mounting pressure from the opposition. He returned as the minister again on 4th January 2023 after the high court of Kerala rejected petition against him.
