ABC de Patim (full name: Amigos de um Berço Comum Futebol Clube, Portuguese for Friends of the Communal Cradle) is a football (soccer) club that currently plays in the Fogo Island League currently in the Second Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the village of Patim in the south of the island.
Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).
Patim is a town in the southwestern part of the island of Fogo, Cape Verde. It is situated 8 km southeast of the island capital São Filipe. At the 2010 census its population was 876. Its elevation is 535 meters. It is 2 km east of Luzia Nunes and 2.5 km southwest of Monte Grande. Its climate is arid. Average temperature is 20.5 °C. Average precipitation is 268 mm.
The club was founded in 1962 and is the second or third oldest club on the island.
In the 2007/08 season, the club participated in the regional premier division of Fogo, they were relegated. In 2013/14, the club was second place in a group stage but second in the differences of scored and conceded goals, overall they were second and played the second. A year later, the club was second in the regional second division's final phase and challenged União de São Lourenço, a ninth placed club and lost a goal in all of the two matches, the first match lost 1-0. In the 2015-16 season, the club went to the finals along with Atlético who attempted to go to the regional first division for the first time. ABC played in the second divisional final or the promotional decision on April 21 match, ABC won the regional second division title for the season and again returns to the regional premier division in eight years for the following season, [1] Atlètico challenged a ninth placed club. On October 16, 2015, the club participated in a tournament which was held in memory of the former goalkeeper Preto Preto. [3]
On November 2016, ABC de Patim, champion of the Second Division faced the Premier Division champion Vulcânicos in the first ever Fogo Champion's Cup, the club lost the cup to Vulcânicos.
ABC Patim once again returned to the Second Division, the first four rounds had no success as they had no win and no goals scored until December 22 as they recently got their first win in the Premier Division in eight years after defeating Valência 5-2 and exited ABC from the relegation zone, it returned during Round 6 and escaped again in the 7th Round after defeating Baxada and put that club to 9th, into March, the club remained above the relegation zone, on April 2, with a draw made, the club was on the 66/33 or a 75/25 chance of staying in the Premier Division for ABC, a win over Baxada made ABC a full chance, ABC spend their second season in a row in the regional Premier Division in late October 2017.
ABC Patim started with near good position with 8th place, though they lost to Nova Era 0-2. Their situation got worst as the next three rounds lost , the first two with two goals conceded, at the third round, ABC was pleased that they scored the season's only two goals in second and third matches. ABC conceded only one goal in a match with Vulcânico which they lost and the club was kept last place. On November 25, the club lost to Académica do Fogo 3-0, a week later, they suffered more with a 4-0 loss to Botafogo and was kept last place as of the eighth round. ABC suffered an eight match losing streak and had nothing in points until their only draw of the season with Atlético Mosteiros on December 16 with a goal each. A minimal relief was achieved as the club got their season's first point after a draw with their first Premier Division match with Atlético dos Mosteiros at the eight round. The suffering continues and how conceded the region's most with 20 goals and is last place, at the 10th round, it worsened to 22 goals but it was not alone as it was shared with Nô Pintcha Mosteiros. In the 11th round, the club was last place, but another mimimal relief was made as they made their next win in the Premier Division in 12 matches, a 2-1 win over Cutelinho on January 21, both ABC and Cutelinho were in the last two positions, ABC remains in last place and will be for the next round. More losses occurred for ABC Patim including the powerful Vulcânico, then the suffering, an 1-9 lost to Académica, they had only six players and the match ended at the 85th minute, their recent, a minimal loss to Botafogo, then ABC Patim will be again in relegation after the season ends, more losses ABC suffered, to Spartak at the 11th round, then 3-6 to Atlético Mostiros. ABC has one match left in the Premier Division to play and will be with Valěncia.
Associação Académica do Fogo is a football club that currently plays in the Campeonato Nacional de Cabo Verde and in the Fogo Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the island of Fogo and plays in the stadium with a capacity of 1000. The logo and the uniform as well as other teams with the name Académica and Académico in Cape Verde is identical to Académica de Coimbra, it features the volcanic mountain on the right. The club name and the year of foundation are at the bottom. Académica do Fogo are one of the unrelegated clubs on the island which includes Vulcânicos and Botafogo.
ABC de Patim has its own football field, the club trains there. Its matches are played at Estádio 5 de Julho with a capacity of 1,000. The club also trains at the stadium. Other clubs playing at the stadium includes Académica do Fogo, Botafogo, Juventude, Vulcânicos and the least prominent club Atlântico. Clubs based in a city subdivision includes Spartak d'Aguadinha, Brasilim of Monte Vaca and Nova Era FC. Other clubs playing at the stadium but not based are União de São Lourenço and Valência from As Hortas.
Estádio 5 de Julho is a multi-purpose stadium in São Filipe, Cape Verde just east of the city center known as Bila Baxo and is near Alto da Aguadinha. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 1,000 people. The stadium is named with the date of Cape Verdean independence.
Botafogo Futebol Clube is football club that plays in the Fogo Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of São Filipe in the island of Fogo and plays in its stadium. Académica do Fogo are one of the unrelegated clubs on the island which includes Académica and Vulcânicos. The owner of the club as of 2014 was Cabo Verde Telecom. It is one of many teams that only a few titles before and since independence including one in 1980. Its president as of the 2014-15 season is Manuel Anatólio Dias Fonseca and its manager as of the 2015-16 season is Mário Pinto.
