Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza delle Ferrovie (ANSF) (in english, National Railways Safety Agency) was an Italian government agency that oversaw the safety of the country's rail system. Its head office was in Florence, [1] within the complex of the Firenze Santa Maria Novella railway station. [2]
In 2020, on the third of November, the agency was replaced by the Agenzia nazionale per la sicurezza delle ferrovie e delle infrastrutture stradali e autostradali (ANSF) (in english, National Railway and Highway Infrastructures Safety Agency).

The Florence–Rome railway is part of the traditional main north–south trunk line of the Italian railway network. The line is referred to by Ferrovie dello Stato as the Linea Lenta to distinguish it from the parallel high-speed line. The Linea Lenta is now mainly used for regional services, for the InterCity services — rather than the faster Le Frecce trains — between Florence and Rome and for the majority of freight trains. Vehicle numbering is now governed by the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail and in Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) of the European Union, specifically the European Railway Agency's CR OPE TSI. This makes the locomotive clearly identifiable within Europe and parts of Asia and northern Africa.
