Ahmad Saeed Dehlavi (also known as Sahbān al-Hind;1888 –4 December 1959) was an Indian Muslim scholar and freedom struggle activist who served as the first general secretary and the fifth president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. He also served as the third rector of Madrasa Aminia and authored books such as Fear of Hell and Key to the Garden of Bliss.
Ahmad Saeed Dehlavi in 1888 in Daryaganj,Delhi. [1] He received his primary education from Abdul Majeed Mustafabadi and Muhammad Yasin Sikandarabadi,and memorized the Quran at Madrasa Hussainia in Delhi. [1] He entered Madrasa Aminia in 1328 AH and graduated in 1336 AH. [2] His teachers included Kifayatullah Dehlawi. [1]
Saeed participated in the Indian freedom struggle and was imprisoned eight times. [3] He was arrested in 1921 and jailed in the Central Jail Mianwali for one year. [4] He was arrested for the last time in 1942 and imprisoned in the jails of Delhi,Lahore,Ferozpur and Multan. [4] He was among the founders of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) and was appointed the interim secretary in the meeting of inception in November 1919. [5]
Saeed was appointed the first general secretary of the JUH in November 1920,a position he served for twenty years. [1] [5] He served as the vice-president of the JUH for seventeen years from 1940 to 1957. [4] He taught at the Madrasa Aminia and was appointed its rector in 1953 following the death of Kifayatullah Dehlawi. [1] [6] He served as the president of the JUH for two years from 1957 until his death on 4 December 1959 in Delhi. [3] [4]
Saeed was seen as an influential speaker. [3] He was known as Sahbān al-Hind. [2]
In September 2019,JUH organized a two-days seminar on the life and works of Saeed. It was attended by scholars and poets including Akhtarul Wasey,Gulzar Dehlvi and Usman Mansoorpuri. [7]
Saeed wrote Kashf-ur-Rahman,an exegesis of the Quran,in Urdu,in two volumes. [3] His other works include: [8]
Kifayatullah Dehlawi,was an Indian Islamic scholar and a Hanafi jurist,who served as the second rector of the Madrasa Aminia. He was appointed as an interim president of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind on its foundation,and as its second president following the death of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi. He was regarded as the Grand Mufti of India.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind or Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is one of the leading organizations of Islamic scholars belonging to the Deobandi school of thought in India. It was founded in November 1919 by a group of Muslim scholars including Abdul Bari Firangi Mahali,Kifayatullah Dehlawi,Muhammad Ibrahim Mir Sialkoti and Sanaullah Amritsari.
Murtaza Hasan Chandpuri (1868-1951) was an Indian Sunni Islamic scholar. He was a disciple of Ashraf Ali Thanwi in the Chishti order of Sufism.

Hifzur Rahman Seoharwi was an Indian Sunni Islamic scholar and an activist of the Indian independence movement,who served as the fourth general secretary of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. He fought against British rule for 25 years (1922-1947) and spent eight years in jail. As a politician,he opposed the partition of India,and served as a member of the Indian Parliament for the Indian National Congress from Amroha from 1952 to 1962.
Muhammad Taqi Amīni was an Indian Sunni Islamic scholar,jurist,Urdu author and the dean of Theology faculty of Aligarh Muslim University. He is known for his works on Islamic jurisprudence,and his book Fiqh Islami ka Tareekhi Pas-e-Manzar is a required reading for master's degree in Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Science &Technology.
Zayn al-Abidin Sajjad Meerthi (1910–1991) was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar and historian and head of the Islamic studies department of Jamia Millia Islamia. His book Tarikh-e-Millat is required reading in the syllabus of Darul Uloom Deoband and in madrasas affiliated with it.

Abul Muhasin Muhammad Sajjad was an Indian Islamic scholar who was one of the most influential ulemas of the 20th century. Sajjad was a founder of Anjuman-Ulama-i-Bihar,Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind,and Imarat-i-Sharia. A leader in the Indian independence movement,Abul Muhasin Muhammad Sajjad participated in the Non-cooperation Movement,Khilafat Movement,and Civil Disobedience Movement;he opposed the partition of India and championed the concept of composite nationalism. He also founded the Muslim Independent Party in 1935 to represent Muslims in Bihar who were disillusioned with Congress and the Muslim League.The Muslim Independent Party formed the government in Bihar in 1937. Yunus,the party president,became the chief minister of Bihar on 1 April 1937.
Hāmid al-Ansāri Ghāzi was an Indian Muslim scholar,author and a journalist,who co-founded the Nadwatul Musannifeen and served as the editor of bi-weekly newspaper Madina. He was the son of Muhammad Mian Mansoor Ansari and an alumnus of the Darul Uloom Deoband,Jamia Islamia Talimuddin and University of the Punjab. He was a member of the executive council of Darul Uloom Deoband and authored books such as Islām ka Nizām-e-Hukūmat and Khulq-e-Azeem.

Ahmad Hasan Amrohi also known as Muhaddith Amrohi within the Deobandi movement;was an Indian Muslim scholar and freedom struggle activist who served as the first principal of Madrasa Shahi in Moradabad. He was an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband and among the founding members of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi's Thamratut-Tarbiyat. He was an authorized disciple of Imdadullah Muhajir Makki.
