History

The application for a flight license (AOC) for Air Antwerp was secured in 2019 by the Transport and Mobility department. [4] On 9 August, Air Antwerp confirmed that the flight permit and operating permit had been received. [5] The first flight operated on 9 September to London City Airport. [6] A few former employees of VLM Airlines worked at Air Antwerp, helping with the preparatory work. The first aircraft, which was shown to the public on 27 July 2019, was previously part of the VLM Airlines fleet.

In October 2019, Air Antwerp joined the European Regions Airline Association. [7]

In May 2021, CityJet handed all its shares to KLM. At the same time, Air Antwerp announced it would put its sole aircraft into storage with no plans to resume its scheduled route in the near future. [3] In June 2021, Air Antwerp announced they would cease operations altogether. [1]

Buzz was a British low-cost airline operating services within Europe. It was founded in 1999 as a subsidiary of Dutch national airline KLM and began operations on January 4, 2000. A new airline known as Air Antwerp which was owned by CityJet (75%) and KLM (25%) launched operations on 9 September 2019 and consisted of ex-employees and fleet of VLM Airlines until its closure in 2021.

Delta Air Transport was a Belgian regional airline headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium, operating scheduled and chartered flights, mostly on short-haul routes. It served a multitude of regional European destinations on behalf of Sabena during the 1990s and early 2000s.
