Racing career

In 2005, Alex Malycke was an Aerodynamics student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. He spent nights working as a mechanic for nearby Raabe Racing Enterprises and the part-time #73 NASCAR Cup team with sponsorship from ARC DeHooker. The team narrowly missed the 2005 Daytona 500 but qualified for Las Vegas two races later and earned $77,050. During that time he also ran the #5 Late Model Stock for owner Mike Southard at Old Dominion Speedway and later advanced to the Lucas Oil Modified Series. [1] In 2009 he was the marketing manager for both Gunselman Motorsports & E&M Motorsports part-time NASCAR Cup Series teams.[ citation needed ]

In 2016, Malycke made his debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at All American Speedway in California, driving the No. 08 Toyota for Kevin McCarty, where he started in 21st and finished in nineteenth due to transmission issues.

In 2023, he served as the crew chief and lead mechanic for Dale Shearer in the ARCA Menards Series East.

In May 2024, Malycke was originally scheduled to make his ARCA Menards Series East debut at Flat Rock Speedway driving a car owned by Brandon McKenzie [2] [3] but operated by the notorious Roger Carter. Roger no-showed the race, kept the funds, and was arrested two months later in Michigan. In September 2024, the chassis, engine and transmission were found by a farmer in a cornfield in Illinois. The reconstructed car is now expected to debut at Rockingham Speedway on Easter 2025 with Alex again at the wheel.

In November, it was revealed that Malycke would return to the ARCA Menards Series West at Phoenix Raceway, driving the No. 21 Toyota for Nascimento Motorsports. [4] [5] He finished in 22nd due to an electrical issue.
