The Alexander Dennis Enviro200EV is a battery electric single-deck bus produced by the British bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis in partnership with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD Auto since 2015. An electric variant of the diesel integral Alexander Dennis Enviro200 MMC, which had been launched that same year to replace the outgoing Enviro200 and Enviro300, the Enviro200EV utilises BYD's own 12 m (39 ft 4 in) chassis and drivetrain and has a range of up to 160 miles with a recharge time of 3.5 hours. [3] [4] A shorter 10.8 m (35 ft 5 in) variant was subsequently added to the range in 2016. [5]
The lithium iron phosphate batteries of the Enviro200EV are stored on the roof of the bus. From the beginning of production, the battery store was arranged in a 'pod' layout, which was replaced in 2020 by a revised and more aerodynamic arrangement that removed the need for the 'pod'. [6]
A second-generation Enviro200EV, using "in-house" battery-electric technology and featuring a restyled exterior and driver's cab similar to the Enviro100EV, is in development and is expected to be launched by Alexander Dennis in 2025. [7]
Go-Ahead London were the launch customer for the Enviro200EV, ordering 51 of the type in July 2015 after trialling two integral BYD K9 electric buses for use on routes 507 and 521. [8] [3] Further deliveries included 14 examples for route 360, [9] 30 more in 2018 for use on routes 153 and 214, [10] and 130 of the type being supplied for various routes across London throughout 2023. [11]
Other Transport for London operators of Enviro200EVs include London United, who operate 100 of the type which were delivered across two batches in 2018 and 2021, [12] [13] Metroline, who purchased 23 Enviro200EVs for use on route 46, [14] and Stagecoach London, who purchased five of the first Enviro200EVs to feature the redesigned roof layout for service on route 323. [15] [6]
Outside London, the first 12 Enviro200EVs to enter service outside of the capital were delivered to Arriva Merseyside in 2017. [16] Three Enviro200EVs were also delivered to Salisbury Reds in 2020 for park and ride services in Salisbury. [17] Four Enviro200EVs, two being 10.8 m examples and another two being 10.2 m examples, were delivered to Stagecoach in Mansfield for use on Nottinghamshire County Council contracted 'Nottsbus' services between 2018 and 2021, [18] [19] and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is to receive four 10.2 m Enviro200EVs for use on 'Sheffield Connect' services in 2023. [20]
The Stagecoach Group is a popular operator of Enviro200EVs, most commonly in Scotland. The group's first nine Enviro200EVs were delivered to Stagecoach South for use in Guildford on 'Glide' park and ride services in January 2019. [21] [22] Further orders for the group's Scottish operations, funded in part by the Scottish Zero Emission Bus (ScotZEB) challenge fund, began to be delivered in the early 2020s; Stagecoach East Scotland first took delivery of nine Enviro200EVs for service in Perth, [23] followed by further 13 to electrify the city's bus network in early 2023 and eleven Enviro200EVs for service Dunfermline in 2023. [24] [25] Stagecoach West Scotland, meanwhile, took delivery of 15 Enviro200EVs for service in Kilmarnock in 2021, [26] joined by a further two in early 2023. [27] [23]
First Glasgow first took delivery of two Enviro200EVs for trial service in January 2020, [28] which was followed by an order for 22 more of the type in March 2021; prior to entering public service in November, these were used as shuttle buses for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference being held in the city. [29] [30] This was followed by a repeat order for 50 more Enviro200EVs, which began to be delivered to the company's Scotstoun depot in June 2023. [31] [32] Elsewhere in Glasgow, three dual-door Enviro200EVs were delivered by National Car Parks in 2019 for car park shuttle services at Glasgow Airport. [33]
The National Transport Authority of Ireland have ordered 200 Enviro200EVs to be delivered to operators across Ireland over a period of five years, specified at 12 m length with dual doors and spaces for wheelchairs and prams as well as a raked front windscreen. Deliveries commenced in January 2023, with the first 11 Enviro200EVs entering service with Bus Éireann in Athlone. [34] [35] [36]
In New Zealand, eight Enviro200EVs were delivered to Auckland Transport operator Fullers360 in late 2020 for services connecting the Auckland Region's Waiheke Island. [37] An electric demonstrator based on the tri-axle Enviro200 XLB was later delivered in August 2021 to Auckland Transport. [38] [39]

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 is a twin-axle low-floor double-decker bus that was built by the British bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis between 2005 and 2018. It replaced the Alexander ALX400, Dennis Trident and Plaxton President. In 2014, the Enviro400 was succeeded by the updated Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC and production of the classic Enviro400 ceased in 2018.

The Volvo B5LH is a low-floor hybrid electric bus chassis for both single-decker buses and double-decker buses manufactured by Volvo between 2008 and 2023. It is the basis for Volvo's integral 7700 Hybrid full low floor city bus and its successor, the 7900 Hybrid from 2011. In 2008, pre-production batches of both types of chassis were manufactured. Serial production started in June 2010. From 2013 it is also available as an articulated bus chassis. First entering service in London, the B5LH is the only current double decker type in service in the United Kingdom that uses a parallel hybrid drive system.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV is a battery electric integral midibus built by British bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis. It is the first midibus produced by the company equipped with Alexander Dennis' own in-house electric drivetrain, complementing the BYD-powered Enviro200EV in the Alexander Dennis product range. The body of the bus is to be assembled in Zhuhai in China, while the chassis of the bus is to be assembled with the body at the Alexander Dennis factory in Scarborough in England.
CAVForth is a pilot scheme based in eastern Scotland to develop passenger-carrying autonomous bus services in the United Kingdom. The scheme's first bus route, the AB1 park and ride service, is operated by Stagecoach East Scotland at a 20-minute frequency between Edinburgh Park and the Ferrytoll Park and Ride site via the Forth Road Bridge. Described by the UK government as being the first full-size public autonomous bus service in the world, the service, which commenced public operations on 15 May 2023, uses a fleet of five Alexander Dennis Enviro200AV diesel single-deck buses built to SAE Level 4 requirements, meaning a driver is present in the bus at all times but does not need to control the bus in regular service.
A recent delivery of 22 BYD/ADL Enviro200 EV single-deckers to the Go-Ahead London operation for use on its route 214 service between Highgate and the City takes the total number of BYD/ ADL electric buses now in service in the UK to more than 200.
