Alexandru Jizdan (born 13 June 1975) is a Moldovan politician and police officer who served as Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova from 2016 to 2019 in the Filip Cabinet. Previously he worked in various positions in structures of Interior Ministry,and in 2015-2016 worked as deputy director of Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova. [1] After the April 2009 protests in Moldova he was awarded by the then-minister Gheorghe Papuc for executing well the orders. [2] From 9 March 2019,the MP of the DPM in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. [3]
Alexandru Jizdan graduated from the Police Academy "Ștefan cel Mare" in 1997. In 2007-2008,he did the post-graduation studies at the Academy of Public Administration of the President of the Republic of Moldova. [4]
From 2015 to 2016,Alexandru Jizdan was the Deputy Head,Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova.
In January 2016,Alexandru Jizdan came back to the Ministry of Internal Affairs,in the position of the Minister of the institution. In August 2016,at the proposal of Prime Minister Pavel Filip,he was promoted to the General rank. The President Nicolae Timofti signed the decree. [6]
On 23-25 November 2016,the delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,headed by the Minister Alexandru Jizdan,held an official working visit to the Ministry of the Interior,Lithuania. The purpose of the visit was to share the partnership and improve the experience exchange and good practices. In July 2016,Alexandru Jizdan and his Lithuanian counterpart,Tomas Žilinskas,signed in Chișinău a cooperation and mutual assistance agreement in the field of prevention and reaction in exceptional situations,and the Civil Protection and Exceptional Situations Service benefited from a donation of 10 special vehicles for the intervention in exceptional situations. On 12 April 2017 the Minister Alexandru Jizdan met with the delegation of the State of Qatar and the Ambassador of the State of Qatar in the Republic of Moldova,E. S. Mohammed Bin Ali Mohammed Al-Maliki. The meeting was focused on:capacity building in the field of combating cross-border crime,information analysis and combating terrorism,taking over the Qatari party's experience and transferring know-how regarding the creation of the Training Center for the law enforcement agencies of the Ministry of Defence,sharing and strengthening institutional capacities to increase security at the airport and to identify joint assistance and cooperation projects that will generate consolidated results. On 5 January 2019 Alexandru Jizdan officially announced his candidacy for the next parliamentary elections on 24 February 2019. He relieved from the Minister's duties and suspended from the position of minister,during the election campaign. [9]
On 25 March 2019 the minister Alexandru Jizdan,signed the collaboration Agreement with Alexandru Bordea,founder of Evenda Company,to organize the free of charge training courses for developing the communication capacities of the MIA's representatives and the methods for improving the management within the subordinated structures. Alexander Jizdan has won the MP's mandate at the electoral constituency no. 34,Anenii Noi,within the Democratic Party of Moldova in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova at the Parliamentary elections held on 24 February 2019. [11] At the last congress of the DPM held on 7 September 2019,he was selected the secretary general of the party. [12]
Aexandru Jizdan is married with Nelea Jizdan (Croitoru) and has 3 children:Bogdan,Mihai and Răzvan. [3]
The General Police Inspectorate is the national civilian police force of the Republic of Moldova. It is a state institution subordinated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs,that regulates law enforcement in Moldova. The current Chief of the General Police Inspectorate is currently Viorel Cernauteanu.
The European Social Democratic Party is a centre-left,populist social-democratic political party in Moldova. Established in 1997,the party holds pro-European views,and is an associate member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and a full member of the Socialist International. According to its statute,the PSDE pleads that Moldova is an independent,sovereign,and democratic state,based on law,and integrated in the united family of European democracies. Reflecting former leader Marian Lupu's views,but also the strong influence of the Moldovan Orthodox Church,the party is more conservative on social issues,such as LGBT rights.
The unification of Moldova and Romania is a popular concept in the two countries that began during the Revolutions of 1989. The Romanian Revolution in 1989 and the independence of Moldova in 1991 further contributed to the development of a movement for the unification of the two Romanian-speaking countries. The question of reunification is recurrent in the public sphere of the two countries,often as a speculation,both as a goal and a danger. Though historically Romanian support for unification was high,a March 2022 survey following the Russian invasion of Ukraine indicated that only 11% of Romania's population supports an immediate union,while over 42% think it is not the right moment.
Zinaida Greceanîi is a Moldovan politician. She was the President of the Moldovan Parliament between 8 June 2019 to 26 July 2021. Greceanîi was previously also the Prime Minister of Moldova from 31 March 2008 to 14 September 2009. She led the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) from 2016 to 2020 and was previously a member of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM). She was Moldova's first female Prime Minister and was the second female Communist head of government in Europe,preceded only by Premier Milka Planinc of former Yugoslavia. She has been referred to by her colleagues in PSRM as the "Moldovan Margaret Thatcher".

Igor Dodon is a Moldovan politician who previously served as the President of Moldova from 23 December 2016 to 24 December 2020. He currently serves as the leader of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova. He served as Minister of Economy and Trade in the governments of Vasile Tarlev and Zinaida Greceanîi from September 2006 to September 2009 and was a member of the Parliament of Moldova from 2009 to 2016. He lost his bid for re-election in 2020 to Maia Sandu,whom he had defeated four years earlier in the 2016 Moldovan presidential election.
Vladimir Plahotniuc,commonly referred to as Vlad Plahotniuc,is a Moldovan politician,businessman and oligarch. He was the chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova and previously was a member of the Parliament of Moldova for three terms,and served as First Vice President of the Parliament of Moldova. Until leaving the territory of the Republic of Moldova in 2019,he was considered to be the powerhouse of Moldovan politics in matters of influence,controlling Moldova's government and parliamentary majority. Since fleeing Moldova in June 2019,Plahotniuc has resided in Turkey.

He also served as a leader of his party's faction in the Chișinău Municipal Council from 2015 to 2019. He has held different positions at the governmental level,starting from the head of a department to Deputy Minister.
The COVID-19 pandemic in Moldova was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached the Republic of Moldova on 7 March 2020,when a Moldovan woman who returned from Italy tested positive for the novel coronavirus. As the number of infected people started to rise during the next days,the Parliament declared a state of emergency on 17 March 2020 for the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova for a period of 60 days.
The Ştefan cel Mare Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the police academy of Moldova. It is named after Stephen III of Moldavia,who ruled the country as Voivode (Prince) from 1457 and 1504. It primarily trains personnel of the General Police Inspectorate in their future service as law enforcement officers. Outside of the IGP,it also trains personnel from other law enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is located on 21 Gheorghe Asachi Street in Chisinau.
