The Alfa Romeo Indy V8 engine is a turbocharged, 2.65-liter, Indy car racing engine, designed and built by Alfa Romeo, for use in the CART PPG Indy Car World Series; between 1989 and 1991. [2] [3] [4] [5] The engine was used in March and Lola car chassis'.

When Alfa Romeo unveiled their (unrelated) 2.65-liter IndyCar engine, it was in the back of a March chassis; however, it was also seen testing at Fiorano Circuit in the unraced 637 chassis. [6] [7] [8]

Lola started by building small front-engine sports cars, and branched out into Formula Junior cars before diversifying into a wider range of sporting vehicles. In 2012, Lola Cars stopped operations. Lola is set to make a return to motorsport in 2024 by joining the Formula E World Championship as a powertrain supplier in a technical partnership with Yamaha with Abt as their customer.

The Ford-Cosworth Indy V8 engine is a series of mechanically similar, turbocharged, 2.65-liter V-8 engines, designed and developed by Ford in partnership with Cosworth for use in American open-wheel racing. It was produced for over 30 years and was used in the United States Auto Club (USAC) Championship Car series, CART, and Champ Car World Series between 1976 and 2007. The DFX engine was the Indy car version of the highly successful 3-liter Ford-Cosworth DFV Formula One engine developed by former Lotus engineer Keith Duckworth and Colin Chapman backing from Ford for the Lotus 49 to campaign the 1967 season. This engine had 155 wins between 1967 and 1985 in F1. The DFX variant was initially developed for Indy car use by Parnelli Jones in 1976, with Cosworth soon taking over. This engine won the Indianapolis 500 ten consecutive years from 1978 to 1987, as well as winning all USAC and CART championships between 1977 and 1987. It powered 81 consecutive Indy car victories from 1981 to 1986, with 153 Indy car victories total.

The Mercedes-Benz Indy V8 engine, known as the Ilmor 265-D (1994), and later the Mercedes-Benz IC108 (1995-2000), is a powerful, turbocharged, 2.65-liter, Indy car racing V-8 engine, specially designed, developed, and built by Ilmor, in partnership and collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, to compete in the CART series; between 1994 and 2000.

Ferrari made a turbocharged, 2.65-liter, V-8, Indy racing engine, dubbed the Tipo 034, designed and purpose-built for competitive use in the CART PPG Indy Car World Series, but, although tested and unveiled to the press in 1986, never raced.

The Lola T92/00 is a highly successful open-wheel racing car chassis, designed and built by Lola Cars that competed in the CART open-wheel racing series, for competition in the 1992 IndyCar season. It was extremely competitive, winning 10 out of the 16 races that season, and clinching 14 total pole positions, including the opening round in Australia, and the special Marlboro Challenge event at Nazareth. It was mainly powered by the 800–850 hp (600–630 kW) Ford/Cosworth XB turbo engine, but some also used the Ilmor-Chevrolet 265-A V8 turbo engine, or the Buick Indy V6 turbo engine with this chassis. It powered Bobby Rahal to his third and final IndyCar World Drivers' Championship.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lola T94/00</span> Racing car designed and built by Reynard Racing Cars

The Lola T94/00 is an open-wheel racing car chassis, designed and built by Lola Cars that competed in the CART open-wheel racing series, for competition in the 1994 IndyCar season. It wasn't as competitive as its predecessors, only managing to score one win, with Scott Goodyear at the Marlboro 500 in Michigan It was mainly powered by the 800–850 hp (600–630 kW) Ford/Cosworth XB turbo engine, but also used the Honda turbo Indy V8 engine, and the Ilmor 265-C/D Indy V8 turbo.
