The Algerian Handball Championship or the Division Excellence is the premier professional handball league in Algeria. It started in 1962 and 14 teams participate in the league.

History

The Algerian handball championship existed at the time of French colonization and was therefore affiliated with the French Handball Federation.

From 1954 to 1959, there was a championship according to the regions. In 1960, regional championships were created played by clubs, the winners of each region being qualified for the final tournament, the winner of which was declared champion of Algeria. The winners of the 1960 edition was Spartiates Oran. [1]

The Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, known as Championnat National de Première Division or Ligue 1 for short, and formerly known as the Championnat National 1, is the Algerian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Algerian football league system. Administered by the Ligue de Football Professionnel, it is contested by 16 clubs, with the two lowest-placed teams at the end of each season being relegated to the Ligue 2 and replaced by the top two teams in that division. The Algerian Super Cup is an Algerian football competition, held as a game between the reigning champions of the Algerian League and the Algerian Cup. The first edition was held in 1981 and then again in 1992, 1994 and 1995 before being scrapped. The game returned in 2006 but would be scrapped again after the 2007 edition, returning once again in 2013.

The 2011–12 Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 was the 50th season of the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 since its establishment in 1962. A total of 16 teams contested the league, with ASO Chlef as the defending champions. The league started on 6 September 2011, and ended on 22 May 2012.

The Algerian Basketball Championship, now called the Super Division and formally known as the ABC Super Division, is the pre-eminent men's basketball league in Algeria. National 1 is contested by 16 teams, with the two lowest-placed teams relegated to the Second Division and replaced by the two playoff winners. From 1963 onwards, MC Alger and WA Boufarik both dominated. Darak El-Watani won 11 titles but no longer exists.

The Algerian Handball Cup is an elimination handball tournament held annually in Algeria. It is the second most important national title in Algerian handball after the Algerian Handball Championship. It started in 1962.

The 1987–88 Algerian Cup was the 26th edition of the Algerian Cup. USM Alger won the Cup by defeating CR Belcourt 5–4 on penalties in the final, after the game ended 0-0. It was USM Alger second Algerian Cup in its history.

In the 2002–03 season, USM Alger is competing in Division 1 for the 23rd time, as well as the Algerian Cup. It is their 8th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. They will be competing in Ligue 1, the CAF Champions League, the UAFA Club Cup and the Algerian Cup. In 2002–03 It was the best season in the history of USM Alger and participated in five competitions, The opening season was in the Arab Unified Club Championship, and was eliminated in the group stage, In the Cup Winners' Cup, the red and black reached the semi-finals, and was eliminated against Wydad Casablanca and fails to achieve the first continental title despite the second leg that took place in Algeria Where did USM Alger need to win to qualify for the final. The history of Union Sportive Médina d'Alger between 1937 and 2010, commonly referred to as USM Alger or simply USMA, is an Algerian professional association football club based in Algiers, whose first team play in the highest tier of Algerian football, the Ligue 1. Established on 5 July 1937. The 2018–19 Algerian Cup was the 54th edition of the Algerian Cup. The winner qualified for the 2019–20 CAF Confederation Cup, The final was played in July 5, 1962 Stadium. CR Belouizdad were the eventual winners.

In the 1975–76 season, MC Alger is competing in the National 1 for the 11th season, as well as the Algerian Cup. It is their 8th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. They will be competing in National, the Algerian Cup and the African Cup of Champions. In 1976, MC Alger qualified for the African Cup of Champions Clubs for the first time in its history after winning the 1974–75 Algerian Championnat National. They reached the final after beating Al-Ahly Benghazi of Libya, Al Ahly of Egypt, Luo Union of Kenya and Enugu Rangers of Nigeria, respectively. In the final, they met Guinean club Hafia Conakry, who had won the last edition of the competition. In the first leg in Conakry, MC Alger lost 3–0 and faced the difficult task of having to score three goals in the return leg. The 1991–92 Algerian League Cup officially called 1991–92 Federation Cup, was the 1st season of the Algerian League Cup. The competition is open to all 16 Algerian clubs participating in the Algerian Championnat National of the 1991–92 season. This season was stopped in semi-final for security reasons in Algeria.

The 1997–98 Algerian League Cup called 1st November Cup is the 3rd season of the Algerian League Cup. The competition was open to all 64 Algerian clubs participating in the Algerian Championnat National and the Algerian Championnat National 2.
