Algidia homerica is a species in the genus Algidia in the harvestman family Triaenonychidae. It was collected at Homer in the Fiordland region of New Zealand. Only a single female specimen is known.
Algidia homerica was described by Ray Forster in 1954 and is a member of the New Zealand endemic genus Algidia in the opilionid (harvestman) family Triaenonychidae . [1] The type specimen is held at Te Papa. [2]
The female has the general characteristics of Algidia. It can be distinguished from other species by the presence of an erect spine-shaped tubercle on top of the eyemound and the spines on the leading edge of the carapace are angled at approximately 45o above the horizontal. No other species is known to possess both these characters. Males are unknown. [1]
The only known specimen was collected by Ray Forster in 1946. He gave the collecting locality as Homer. [1] On the basis of other collections made by Ray Forster on the same date and held by Te Papa, [3] it is assumed this is in the vicinity of Homer Forks, near the Homer Hut, and the then unfinished Homer Tunnel in the Fiordland region of New Zealand.
Algiidia homerica has not been assessed under the New Zealand Threat Classification System. [4]
The weka, also known as the Māori hen or woodhen is a flightless bird species of the rail family. It is endemic to New Zealand. It is the only extant member of the genus Gallirallus. Four subspecies are recognized but only two (northern/southern) are supported by genetic evidence.
Lyall's wren or the Stephens Island wren was a small, flightless passerine belonging to the family Acanthisittidae, the New Zealand wrens. Dracophyllum is a genus of plants belonging to the family Ericaceae, formerly Epacridaceae. There are 61 species in the genus, mostly shrubs, but also cushion plants and trees, found in New Zealand, Australia, Lord Howe Island and New Caledonia. The name Dracophyllum, meaning dragon-leaf, refers to their strong outward similarity to the unrelated Dracaena, sometimes known as dragon tree. Although dicotyledonous, they resemble primitive monocots with their slender leaves concentrated in clumps at the ends of the branches; they are sometimes called grass-trees.
Spelungula is a monotypic genus of South Pacific large-clawed spiders containing the single species, Spelungula cavernicola, or the Nelson cave spider. It was first described by Ray Forster, Norman I. Platnick, & Michael R. Gray in 1987, and has only been found in caves in the northwestern part of New Zealand's South Island.

Ichneutica sericata is a moth of the family Noctuidae. It is endemic to New Zealand. This species is variable and difficult to distinguish from I. skelloni specimens. It is known from the southern part of the South Island and from Stewart Island. There has been one specimen collected in Taranaki but although Robert Hoare determined the species, he expressed reservations given the location of collection. I. sercata inhabits shrubland at altitudes of between 470 and 900m. The life history of this species is unknown as are the host species of its larvae. The adults of this species are on the wing in August at Stewart Island and in November and December in the South Island.

Ichneutica notata is a moth of the family Noctuidae. It is endemic to New Zealand. Although similar in appearance to other species in the Ichneutica genus, it can be distinguished by the colouration and patterns on its wings. It appears to be a very local species, rarely collected and having only been recorded in the north-west of the Tasman District, the Paproa Range, the Rainbow Ski field and the Craigieburn Range. Very little is known of the life history of I. notata.

Dracophyllum fiordense, commonly known as the Fiordland grass tree, is a species of tree or shrub in the heath family, Ericaceae. It is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It reaches a height of 1.5–5.0 metres and has tufts of long green leaves at the ends of its branches. Each leaf has a distinctive curled spiral tip. D. fiordense has a pyramid-shaped inflorescence hidden under each clump of leaves, with between 113 and 120 pink flowers on each spike, and later reddish-brown dry fruit; both are around just 2 by 2 mm. It inhabits shrubland, lowland and subalpine forests, and tussock grassland of mountain slopes, gullies, and ridges. Its range covers two main areas: one in Fiordland National Park, and one in the Mount Cook and Westland National Parks.
Forsteropsalis photophaga, also known as the glow-worm hunter, is a species of long-legged harvestman in the family Neopilionidae. This species is endemic to New Zealand, found in North Island caves in the vicinity of Waitomo. The name "photophaga" comes from their habit of feeding on the luminescent larvae, pupae, and adults of the New Zealand glow-worm Arachnocampa luminosa.
Algidia chiltoni oconnori is a subspecies in the genus Algidia in the harvestman family Triaenonychidae. It is found the lower North Island of New Zealand. Only male specimens are known, leading Ray Forster to speculate that it could be a second male form of Algidia chiltoni chiltoni even though male dimorphism is unknown in Algidia.
Prasmiola unica is the only member of the genus Prasmiola in the harvestman family Triaenonychidae. It is found near Wellington, New Zealand, and is known from a single specimen. The New Zealand Threat Classification System status for this species is 'nationally critical'.

Algidia chiltoni longispinosa is a subspecies in the genus Algidia in the harvestman family Triaenonychidae. It is found in the Horowhenua district and Wairarapa region in the lower North Island of New Zealand. Ray Forster placed it as a subspecies of Algiidia chiltoni.
Algidia chiltoni is species in the genus Algidia in the harvestman family Triaenonychidae. Endemic to New Zealand, the species is found in most of the North Island as far north as Auckland and in the north-western part of the South Island. Carl Fredrich Roewer described this species in 1931 after realising the females in the type material of Algidia cuspidata Hogg, 1923 were a separate species. Ray Forster revised the genus Algidia in 1954, redescribing Algidia chiltoni and describing two new subspecies.
