Alika Milova [lower-alpha 1] (born 5 September 2002), known mononymously as Alika, is an Estonian singer. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with the song "Bridges", finishing in eighth place with 168 points.

Musical career

Milova made her name by participating in various singing competitions and television programs in Estonia and abroad since childhood, including The Baltic Voice, New Wave Junior, Kaunas Talent, Bravo Song Contest and Berlin Perle. She rose to prominence in 2021 with her victory at the eighth edition of the Estonian talent show Eesti otsib superstaari , which earned her a record deal with Universal Music Group. [1]

On 1 November 2022, it was announced that she would participate in Eesti Laul 2023 with the song "Bridges". [2] She participated in Semi Final 2 and qualified for the final. [3] On 11 February 2023, Milova performed in the final, where televoting chose her as the winner among the 12 participants to become their national representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool. [4]

At Liverpool, Alika performed in the first half of the second semi-final and placed 10th, qualifying for the final. In the grand final, Milova ultimately placed 8th with a score of 168 points.

On 14 August 2023, Alika announced on her Instagram account that her debut album would be released on 24 November. [5] This debut album, titled simply 'Alika', won Debut Album of the Year at the Estonian Music Awards 2024 (Eesti Muusikaauhinnad 2024) held on 1 February 2024. [6] At the same awards ceremony, Alika also won Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year with her Eurovision entry Bridges. [6]

Personal life

Milova was born into a Russian-speaking family in the Estonian border town of Narva. [7] Originally, most of her family is from Crimea, Ukraine. Family members that still lived there, moved to Kyiv after the Russian invasion and occupation of Crimea in 2014. [8] Milova's sister, Valeria Milova, is a professional dancer and has appeared on the Turkish and Irish versions of Dancing with the Stars . [9]

Eesti Laul is an annual music competition organised by Estonian public broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR). It determines the country's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, and has been staged every year since 2009. Eesti Laul was introduced in 2009, replacing the former Eurolaul festival which had been used since Estonia's first Eurovision participation in 1993. It is one of the most popular television programmes in Estonia; it is also broadcast on radio and the Internet. Malcolm Lincoln was an Estonian band that formed in October 2009. The members are Robin Juhkental, Jakob Juhkam, Siim Raidma, Ott Adamson, Johan Alexander Petti and Hans Kurvits. The original lineup consisted of Robin Juhkental (vocals/electronics) and Madis Kubu (bass). Juhkental has described their style as "electronic pop with a slightly quirky undertone". The band's name originates from the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, where a woman incorrectly answered "Malcolm Lincoln" to a question involving the first name of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Tatjana Mihhailova-Saar, better known as Tanja or Tanja Mihhailova is a Russian-Estonian pop singer and actress. She was born in Kaliningrad, Russia, and has lived in Estonia from a very young age. Tanja has been a member of several bands in her professional career and has performed in several stage musicals. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Amazing" and finished in 12th place in the semi-final, failing to qualify.

Uku Suviste is an Estonian singer-songwriter, pianist and music producer. He was scheduled to represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, before cancellation of the competition that year. Valeria Milova is an Estonian dancer and choreographer. She is best known for her role as a professional dancer on the Irish and Turkish versions of Dancing with the Stars.

Oliver Mazurtšak, known professionally as Ollie, is an Estonian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. His father is Jüri Mazurtšak, the drummer from the Estonian bands 2 Quick Start and Night Star, who participated in the Eurovision Song Contests of 1998 and 2002 together with the Estonian act on stage.

"Bridges" is a song by Estonian singer Alika Milova, released on 2 December 2022. It represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 after winning Eesti Laul 2023, Estonia's national selection for that year's Eurovision Song Contest. At the final it finished in eighth place and charted in Iceland, UK, Sweden, Lithuania and Netherlands.

Estonia is set to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, with "(Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi" performed by 5miinust and Puuluup. The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) organised the national final Eesti Laul2024 in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2024 contest.

5miinust is an Estonian hip hop group formed in Võsu in 2015. They are set to represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 alongside Puuluup with "(Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi".
