Adamawa state is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria,bordered by Borno to the northwest,Gombe to the west,and Taraba to the southwest,while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon. It takes its name from the historic emirate of Adamawa,with the emirate's old capital of Yola,serving as the capital city of Adamawa state. The state is one of the most heterogeneous in Nigeria,with over 100 indigenous ethnic groups. It was formed in 1991,when the former Gongola state was divided into Adamawa and Taraba states. Since it was carved out of the old Gongola State in 1991 by the General Ibrahim Badamsi Babangida military regime,Adamawa State has had 10 men,both military and civilian,controlling the levers of power,who played crucial roles in transforming the state into what it is today.

All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly,three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State,Kogi State,and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The 2023 Nigerian elections were held in large part on 25 February,and will be held on 11 March 2023. The president and vice president were elected on 25 February,with incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari ineligible to run,being term-limited. Additionally,there were also elections on the same day for the Senate and the House of Representatives. On 11 March,twenty-eight gubernatorial elections will be held alongside elections to state houses of assembly in all 36 states. Three additional gubernatorial elections will be held later in the year alongside potential rerun elections for regularly scheduled elections annulled from earlier in the year.

The Gurin Central Mosque is a 19th-century mosque that has served the people of Gurin for over 200 years. In addition to the five daily prayers,the Gurin mosque served as a regular venue for the weekly Friday prayers. It also functioned as a tribunal,a gathering place for official communications,and as a space for organizing and preparing for the Jihad that took place in Fombina beginning in 1809. It was originally built by Modibbo Hamman in 1806 and has gone through numerous renovations and reconstructions. The mosque was built using corn-stalks,hence the name Masallacin Kara. It was entirely rebuilt using modern materials in 2003 by the late Lamido Aliyu Musdafa.
