Ambatosia is a town and commune (Malagasy : kaominina) in Madagascar. It belongs to the district of Bealanana, which is a part of Sofia Region. The population of the commune was estimated to be approximately 19,000 in 2001 commune census. [2]

Districts are in their turn divided into communes; while some of the districts in urban areas and offshore islands each consist of only one commune, most of the districts are divided typically into 5–20 communes.
Primary and junior level secondary education are available in town. The majority 70% of the population of the commune are farmers, while an additional 29.5% receives their livelihood from raising livestock. The most important crop is onions, while other important products are peanuts and beans. Services provide employment for 0.5% of the population. [2]

World annual production of shelled peanuts was 44 million tonnes in 2016, led by China with 38% of the world total. Atypically among crop plants, peanut pods develop underground (geocarpy) rather than aboveground. With this characteristic in mind, the botanist Linnaeus named the species hypogaea, which means "under the earth."
