Ambica Airlines is a defunct airline, which was based at Bombay, India . [1] [2]

Ambica Airlines began local services on 10 March 1947. The fleet consisted of DC-3s, with a three Beech 18s and other types. The airline was associated and subsidiary [3] of the Shri Ambica Steam Navigation Company, [4] [5] [6] a shipping company owned & established by Seth Vijaysinh Govindji & Jagmal Raja Chauhan in 1945. [7] [8]

Ambica Airline operated on 944 kilometers route, twice-weekly services Bombay-Vadodara-Ahmedabad and thrice-weekly Bombay-Bhuj-Rajkot-Jamnagar-Morbi route. [1] [7] The airline was started by businessman Seth Haridas Madhavdas, Seth Vithaldas Kanji, Seth Vijaysinh Govindji and Rai Bahadur Jagmal Raja, having its head office at Bombay. [7] [9] [10] [11]

The airlines closed in the year 1949 due to insufficient traffic and other litigations. [9] [12]

Completed on 1931, it is a multispan truss bridge and was built to primarily to provide direct road and rail connectivity between the Calcutta Port and the major railhead at Howrah railway station on the West bank of the Hooghly River. It is 2,887 feet (880 m) long having 9 spans in total. The famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple is situated on the banks of the Hooghly River near the bridge. The bridge is one of the four bridges linking Howrah and Kolkata. A new road bridge, the Nivedita Setu, was constructed 50 m (160 ft) downstream in 2007 due to weakening of the Vivekanada Setu caused by its ageing.

Rao Bahadur Honour bestowed during British rule in India

Rai Bahadur, abbreviatedR.B., was a title of honour bestowed during British rule in India to individuals for faithful service or acts of public welfare to the Empire. From 1911, the title was accompanied by a medal called a Title Badge. Translated, Rao means "prince", and Bahadur means "brave" or "most honourable". Bestowed mainly on Hindus, the equivalent title for Muslim and Parsi subjects was Khan Bahadur. For Sikhs it was Sardar Bahadur.
