The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is a statutory body under the ownership of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. It is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining, and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India. It provides Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) services over the Indian airspace and adjoining oceanic areas. AAI currently manages a total of 137 airports, including 34 international airports, 10 Customs Airports, 81 domestic airports, and 23 Civil enclaves at Defense airfields. AAI also has ground installations at all airports and 25 other locations to ensure the safety of aircraft operations. AAI covers all major air routes over the Indian landmass via 29 Radar installations at 11 locations along with 700 VOR/DVOR installations co-located with Distance Measuring Equipment (DME). 52 runways are provided with Instrument landing system (ILS) installations with Night Landing Facilities at most of these airports and an Automatic Message Switching System at 15 Airports.
Coimbatore International Airport is an international airport and the primary airport serving the Coimbatore Metropolitan Area in Tamil Nadu, India. It is located in the neighborhood of Peelamedu, about 10 km (6.2 mi) from the center of the city. It is the second busiest airport in Tamil Nadu by overall passengers handled after Chennai International Airport. The airport is served by six carriers providing direct connectivity to nine domestic and three international destinations.
Tuticorin Airport is a domestic airport serving Thoothukudi and its adjoining districts of Thoothukkudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu. It is located at Vagaikulam, 15.6 km (9.7 mi) west of the city centre, on National Highway 7A. The airport was ISO 9001:2015 quality certified on 13 April 2018. It is the fifth busiest airport in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, and Madurai airports.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is a statutory body of the Government of India to regulate civil aviation in India. It became a statutory body under the Aircraft (Amendment) Act, 2020. The DGCA investigates aviation accidents and incidents, maintains all regulations related to aviation and is responsible for issuance of licenses pertaining to aviation like PPL's, SPL's and CPL's in India. It is headquartered along Sri Aurobindo Marg, opposite Safdarjung Airport, in New Delhi. The Government of India is planning to replace the organisation with a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), modelled on the lines of the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Veer Surendra Sai Airport, also known as Jharsuguda Airport, is a domestic airport serving Jharsuguda, Odisha, India. The airport is located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north-east from the city centre. The airport is located in Durlaga village, approximately 8.5 km (5.3 mi) from Jharsuguda Junction Railway Station. The airport is named after the revolutionary Bira Surendra Sai and it is the second commercial airport in the state of Odisha. The airport caters to areas like districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Debagarh, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Boudh of Orissa and Raigarh, Korba, Surguja, Jashpur districts of Chhattisgarh.
Pondicherry Airport is a domestic airport serving the union territory of Puducherry, India. It is located at Lawspet, situated 8.1 km (5.0 mi) from the international community of Auroville. The airport has scheduled flights and operations of the local flying training school. In 2007, the Government of Puducherry decided to expand the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and commissioned a new terminal building. The new terminal was inaugurated on 18 January 2013, with the arrival of a SpiceJet flight from Bangalore. After a gap of three years, the airport was operationalised again under the UDAN scheme in August 2017, with daily flights to Hyderabad and Bangalore.
