Andhra Pradesh, a state of India, has airports which have access to international flights, domestic and some non used airstrips for emergency purposes. All the airports in Andhra Pradesh are operated by either Airports Authority of India [1] [2] or Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Ltd. (APADCL). [3]

Andhra Pradesh Airports provides services to tourists and the state population commuting to different parts of the state. Visakhapatnam Airport and Vijayawada Airport are the International Airports and gets the major attention for commercial reasons. Tirupati Airport is an international airport which serve major pilgrim population . Other airports in the state with domestic flights are located at Kurnool, Kadapa, Puttaparthi, Rajahmundry which are in operation. [4]

Classification

This list contains the following information:

  1. Area served – Town or city where the airport is located. This may not always be an exact location as some airports are situated in the periphery of the town/city they serve.
  2. IATA – The three letter airport code assigned by the International Air Transport Association.
  3. ICAO – The four letter airport code assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organization. ICAO codes for Andhra Pradesh start with VO [South Zone - Chennai Center].
  4. Owned/Operated – Authority owning or operating the airport.
  5. Airport type – Type of the airport, including the terminology used by Airports Authority of India, [5] as per the table below:

The region share borders with Rayalaseema, Uttarandhra and Telangana. It was a part of Madras State before 1953 and Andhra State from 1953 to 1956. According to the 2011 census, it has an area of 91,915 square kilometres (35,489 sq mi) which is 57.99% of the total state area and a population of 34,193,868 which is 69.20% of Andhra Pradesh state population. This area includes the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh on the Circar Coast between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal, from the northern border with Odisha to Rayalaseema in the south.

Kadapa Airport is a domestic airport serving Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located 12 km (7.5 mi) from the city, and is spread over 669.5 acres (270.9 ha) of land. It has been upgraded at a cost of ₹ 42 crore. The upgraded airport was inaugurated on 7 June 2015 by the then Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi Raju. The terminal building has a capacity to handle 100 peak hour passengers at a time and the apron can accommodate seven ATR-72 type aircraft.

Andhra Pradesh lies between 12°41' and 19.07°N latitude and 77° and 84°40'E longitude, and is bordered by Telangana to the north and west, Chhattisgarh to the north-west, Orissa to the north, the Bay of Bengal to the east, Tamil Nadu to the south and Karnataka to the southwest and west. Andhra Pradesh has a coastline of around 974 km, which gives it the second longest coastline in the nation. Two major rivers, the Godavari and the Krishna run across the state. A small enclave 12 sq mi (30 km²), the Yanam district of Puducherry, lies in the Godavari Delta in the north east of the state. The state includes the eastern part of Deccan plateau as well as a considerable part of the Eastern Ghats.

Andhra Pradesh is well connected with various destinations in India, as well as other countries. It has road, rail, airways. With a long coast of Bay of Bengal and many sea ports, it flourishes in sea trade as well. The state has one of the largest railway junctions at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam Port being one of the largest cargo handling seaport.

GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport is an international airport and a greenfield airport under construction at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, about 40 kilometres (25 mi) north-east of Visakhapatnam and 15 km south east of Vizianagaram. By the time of completion in Dec 2025, it is projected to be India’s 7th largest airport by area and 15th by Passenger traffic. It is proposed to be a focus city for 2 airlines and the primary international gateway to the state of Andhra Pradesh.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Howrah–Tirupati Humsafar Express</span> Indian train line

The 20889 / 20890 Howrah–Tirupati Humsafar Express is a completely 3-tier AC sleeper trains of the Indian Railways connecting Howrah in West Bengal and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. It is currently being operated with 20889/20890 train numbers on a weekly basis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Transport in Vizianagaram</span>

There are various modes of transportation available in Vizianagaram and its Neighbourhoods. It includes auto rickshaws, bicycles to mass transit systems - such as buses, trains and flights.

South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) has been announced as the newest railway zone of the Indian Railways and is headquartered at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The formal notification for operationalization of this Zone is yet to be issued.
