Karaikal Airport is a greenfield airport under construction at Karaikal, in the union territory of Puducherry, India. The District Administration of Karaikal had acquired around 300 acres of land in 2013 near Nedungadu and handed over to Coimbatore based Super Airport Infrastructure Private Limited to build the airport. [1] By August 2019, since no progress had been made in executing the project and since the licence issued to the company had expired, the district administration decided to engage CIAL, the operators of Cochin International Airport to advise it on carrying the airport project forward. [2]
Karaikal was touted to become the first airport in the country to be built entirely with private capital. [3] The Air Traffic Control, however, was to be operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). [4]
The greenfield project, proposed with 100% private ownership for public use, received in-principle clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation in February 2011. Construction work was scheduled to commence in May 2013. [1] However, the project became dormant because the promoters could not raise the minimum of ₹ 100 crores required to begin construction of the runway. [5] The airport project site, spread across 562 acres, was to be developed by Karaikal Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Coimbatore based Super Airport Infrastructure Private Limited (SAPL). The first phase of construction initially envisaged the construction of an 1,800-metre runway and a terminal building capable of handling 250 passengers during peak hours at an expense of ₹ 60 crore. The airport was expected to handle airliners like the Boeing 737. [1] Citing delays in land acquisition, the company decided to build a shorter 1,250 metre long runway in the first phase, suitable for the operation of 30 seater aircraft [6] The company had planned to expand the airport after five years, extending the runway to 2,600 metres and increasing terminal building capacity to 500 passengers per hour. A further expansion planned ten years down the line would envisage a 3,500-metre runway and a passenger capacity of 1,000 per hour. [7] SAPL claimed that construction is would be completed before June 2018, [6] but August 2019, since no progress had been made in executing the project and the licence issued to the company expired, the district administration decided to engage CIAL, the operators of Cochin International Airport to advise it on carrying the airport project forward. Vijayapura Airport, proposed to be named as Jagajyoti Shri Basaveshwar Airport, is an under-construction greenfield airport that will serve the city of Vijayapura in Karnataka, India. The airport is being built by the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) at a cost of Rs 220 crore. The project site is located 15 km from the city on 727-acre (2.94 km2) of land in Madhabavi, located outside the city premises. The airport was expected to be ready by early 2023, but this has been postponed to Dec 2024.

Donyi Polo Airport, also known as Hollongi Airport, is a domestic airport serving Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is located at Hollongi, situated 14 km (8.7 mi) south from the city centre, in the Papum Pare district. It is built by the Airports Authority of India, over an area of 320 hectares. The airport is the 16th airport of Northeast India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the airport on 9 February 2019. Construction was started on 15 December 2020, and was inaugurated on 19 November 2022, with flight services started by IndiGo to Kolkata and Mumbai from 28 November 2022.
New Bellary Airport is a proposed greenfield airport, which will serve the city of Bellary in Karnataka, India. It will be built by the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (KSIIDC). With the Public-Private Partnership project for developing the airport failing to take off, the State department has decided to take up the project on its own on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. The new airport site is located roughly 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) northeast of Bellary, near the villages of Chaganur and Sirivaram.
Rajkot International Airport is an international airport and a greenfield airport at Hirasar, Gujarat, India, serving the city of Rajkot and the Saurashtra region. It is located near the National Highway 8B (NH-8B) connecting Ahmedabad and Rajkot. It has a single runway for the operation of ‘C’ category aircraft. The airport was developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of ₹2,654 crore (US$320 million). The foundation stone for the construction of the airport was laid on 7 October 2017, and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 July 2023, which was previously expected to be done on 31 December 2023.

Kota Greenfield Airport is a proposed airport, planned to be built at Shambupura village in Bundi district, approximately 15 kilometres from Kota, 20 kilometres from Bundi and 50 kilometres from Rawatbhata, in Rajasthan, India. The airport will be built by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The airport site is within 10 kilometres of the Chambal Ghariyal wildlife sanctuary and within 10 kilometres of the Mukundara Hills National Park. The proposed airport falls in the notified buffer area of Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary and will use 466 hectares of forest land.
