Karad Airport( ICAO : VA1M) is in the Satara district of Maharashtra state in India. Its airstrip was built in 1955 by the Public Works Department [1] to facilitate the Koyna dam project. [2] The airport is currently used for general aviation and piloting. [3]
It currently covers 65 acres; the acquisition of more than 100 acres has been proposed. [2] Runway 10/28 is 1280 metres long and 30 metres wide with a 60-by-60-metre apron.[ citation needed ] No navigational aids or night landing facilities are available on the airstrip.[ citation needed ]
The State run Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) plans to extend the 1,250 metres airstrip by another 1,500m and widen it by 150m. [4] The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has submitted its technical feasibility report to the MADC for examination which in turn has handed it over to the Maharashtra Government for final approval. [5]
Karad is a city in Satara district of Indian state of Maharashtra and it is 320 km (180.19 miles) from Mumbai, 72 km From Sangli and 159 km from Pune. It lies at the confluence of Koyna River and the Krishna River known as the "Priti sangam". The two rivers originate at Mahabaleshwar, which is around 100 km from Karad. They diverge at their origin, and travel for about the same distance to meet again in Karad. The rivers meet exactly head on, thus forming letter "T" which is the only head on confluence in the world. Hence Krishna and Koyna river's confluence is called Preeti Sangam, meaning Confluence of Love. Karad is well known for sugar production and is known as the sugar bowl of Maharashtra owing to the presence of many sugar factories in and around Karad. It is considered as an important educational hub in Western Maharashtra due to the presence of many prestigious educational institutes. This place is also known for resting place or (Samadhi) of the first chief minister of Maharashtra Shri. Yashwantrao Chavan situated at the confluence of Krishna and Koyana river.

Chandrapur Greenfield Airport is a greenfield airport to be built at Murti, 42 kilometres south of Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is the nodal agency for the project. The airport will be developed in two phases. The first phase will be built on 720 acres of land, with a 2000 metre runway capable of handling turboprop aircraft like the Bombardier Q400 and ATR 72. In the second phase, the runway will be extended to 3000 metres to accommodate narrow-body jet aircraft like the Airbus A-320. The Airports Authority of India submitted its pre-feasibility report in January 2018, approving the site for the construction of a greenfield airport. Following this, the State government gave approval for the project and sanctioned funds for acquisition of 463 acres of private land and other administrative process. The land acquisition for the airport is expected to be completed by the end of financial year 2020/21.
