Air Carnival was an Indian regional airline based at Coimbatore International Airport with a hub at Chennai International Airport. Air Carnival was promoted by the Coimbatore Marine College (CMC) Group. It was founded in 2013 as a charter airline but transitioned to scheduled operations within South India, which were launched in July 2016.

The airline ceased operations on 6 April 2017. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation suspended its air operator's permit in June 2017. In November 2017, the Chennai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) ordered the corporate insolvency resolution process against the airline [4] and ordered liquidation of the company in January 2019. [5]

History

The company was founded in 2013 by S.I. Nathan of the CMC group, as Air Carnival Charter Services, a charter airline based in Delhi. [6] The group later shifted the focus of Air Carnival to short-haul routes within South India. Coimbatore was selected as the base for its aircraft in order to offer optimum flight timings to the city's business community. [7]

Manish Kumar Singh was chief executive officer; and S. I. Nathan, who is also the director of CMC Group, was the founder and chairman. [8]

The airline was positioned as a small-town carrier, with a fleet of two aircraft. The plan was to operate on short-haul routes where it could fly profitably [9] with a focus on unserved and poorly served markets. [6] The airline received its no-objection certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in June 2014 to operate on regional routes in South India. [10] Air Carnival received its first aircraft, an ATR 72-500, in April 2016 [11] and its air operator's certificate in July 2016. [12] The airline commenced operations on 18 July 2016 with a flight from Coimbatore to Chennai. [13]

The promoters ran into funding issues within nine months of operations. Efforts to acquire two more aircraft did not materialise as promoters failed to raise funds. The promoters attempted to sell their stake in the airline in April 2017. [14] However, by then the airline had ceased operations after the airline's engineers demanding wages went on a two-day strike, resulting in the grounding of its lone aircraft. [15] The Directorate General of Civil Aviation suspended Carnival's air operator's certificate in June 2017 after the airline failed to satisfy the regulator in its response to a show-cause notice. [16]

In November 2017, the Chennai bench of the NCLT ordered the corporate insolvency resolution process against the airline [4] and, after finding no investors to revive the airline, ordered liquidation of the company in January 2019. [5]

Air Costa was an Indian regional airline headquartered in Vijayawada and based out of Chennai International Airport. It was owned by Indian business company LEPL Group. The airline commenced operations as a regional airline in October 2013 using two Embraer E-170 aircraft, with the first flight taking off from Chennai on 16 October 2013. The airline received a permit for pan-India operations in October 2016. The airline focused on connectivity between tier II and tier III cities in the country, and invested ₹600 crore (US$75 million) as of 2015. Air Costa operated 32 daily flights to nine destinations from its focus cities Chennai and Vijayawada as of 2015. The airline had a maintenance center in Chennai. On 28 February 2017, it suspended operations until further notice.

TruJet was an Indian regional airline based at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. The airline commenced operations in July 2015 and ceased all operations in February 2022.

Air Pegasus was an Indian regional airline headquartered in Bangalore and based at Kempegowda International Airport. The airline was a subsidiary of Decor Aviation, an aircraft ground-handling services company. It commenced operations on 12 April 2015 with its inaugural flight between Bangalore and Hubli. The airline suspended operations on 27 July 2016, facing financial difficulties. At that time, Air Pegasus was serving eight airports across South India with a hub at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, using a fleet of three ATR 72-500 aircraft. Their flying licence was suspended by DGCA on 22 November 2016. Managing director Shyson Thomas stated in late 2017 that Air Pegasus would return to the skies in early 2018, as the company had formed a relationship with Dawn Aviation and was about to settle all of its debts. Several cases have been filed against Air Pegasus chairman Shyson Thomas, Shyna Thomas and son Ashwin Thomas who was managing director. Till date no debts have been cleared and Air Pegasus office has been vacated from its MG road address.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ventura AirConnect</span> Indian Airline

Ventura AirConnect is an Indian nonscheduled airline operating flights in the state of Gujarat with Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft in its fleet. Initially operating flights within Madhya Pradesh, the airline shifted to Gujarat upon being acquired by a group of Gujarati diamond merchants in 2014. The airline underwent a change in ownership and had to suspend operations in 2015. After winning a contract from the Government of Gujarat to start flights in the state, Ventura AirConnect resumed operations in June 2016 and made Surat International Airport its operating hub.

Zoom Air, legally Zexus Air Services, was an Indian regional airline based at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Norwegian Air UK Ltd was a British airline and a fully integrated subsidiary of low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle, using its corporate identity. The airline operated Boeing 787-9 aircraft on scheduled services between Europe, Asia, and the Americas from its base at Gatwick Airport, south of London. In January 2021, Norwegian Air Shuttle announced it would cease all long-haul operations, which included those of Norwegian Air UK.

Fly LEVEL SL, trading as LEVEL, is an airline brand under which airlines owned by the International Airlines Group (IAG) operate low-cost flights. The brand has a registered office in Madrid, Spain.

Level Europe GmbH was an Austrian airline owned by Vueling, and by extension the International Airlines Group (IAG). It operated short-haul flights within Europe from bases at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Vienna International Airport sharing the Level's brand, but at the same time, being completely different airlines. The airline's first flight took place on 17 July 2018. The airline filed for insolvency on 18 June 2020, and ceased operations on the same day.
