The Americas Nines is a rugby league nines competition staged by the Canada Rugby League and was founded in 2018. The first tournament occurred on May 18, 2019 at Lamport Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [1]

Rugby league football is a participation and spectator sport in Canada. The code was first introduced to Canada in the 20th century, but the game struggled to survive in a competitive sporting market. By the end of the century, rugby league had disappeared completely from Canada. The game was re-introduced to Canada in the early 21st century with the formation of a national team. The start of an amateur domestic competition saw rugby league grow. In 2017, professional rugby league arrived in Canada with the Toronto Wolfpack joining the predominantly British and French Rugby Football League system in the third tier League 1.

Allan A. Lamport Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium on King Street West in the Liberty Village neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the practice facility for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. It is also partial home for Canada national rugby league team. The playing surface of the 9,600 seating capacity stadium is also dually marked for soccer and field hockey. The stadium was named for long-time Toronto politician Allan Lamport, who was associated with sporting activities in the city.

The Super League World Nines, was a pre-season rugby league nines tournament between national sides. Set up in the midst of the Super League war and created in opposition to the Australian Rugby League's World Sevens tournament, the tournament was held twice before being abandoned when the two factions merged to form the National Rugby League.

The NRL Nines is a rugby league nines competition, normally held during the NRL preseason each year. It was initially held in Auckland, New Zealand, between 2014 and 2017 before going on hiatus.

The 2014 NRL Auckland Nines was the first NRL Auckland Nines tournament, contested between all sixteen teams of the National Rugby League. The draw was released on 30 October 2014. It was a two-day, nine-a-side, knockout tournament held at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand. All sixteen NRL clubs and 256 players competed over the one weekend with AUD$2.25 million prize money split between the teams. The North Queensland Cowboys won the tournament defeating the Brisbane Broncos 16 – 7.

The 2015 NRL Auckland Nines was the second NRL Auckland Nines tournament, contested between all sixteen teams of the National Rugby League. The draw was released on 16 September 2014. It was a two-day, nine-a-side, knockout tournament held at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand. All sixteen NRL clubs and 288 players competed over the one weekend with AUD$2.4 million prize money split between the teams. In 2015, the pool names were chosen by a public vote. The pool names were: Rangitoto, Waiheke, Piha and Hunua Ranges. The event included two international women's teams, the Kiwi Ferns and the Jillaroos, who competed in a three-game series with the Kiwi Ferns winning 2-1.

Cabramatta International Nines is a rugby league nines tournament held annually in Cabramatta, New South Wales, Australia it was first held in 2003. The 2020 will be broadcast online by The81stMinute Call Team on steelesports.com.au with video streaming through the Cabramatta Facebook page. This will be the fourth time The81stMinute Call Team has broadcast the Nines.

The 2016 NRL Auckland Nines was the third NRL Auckland Nines competition. It was held on 6–7 February 2016 at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand. As with previous tournaments, it was contested by all sixteen National Rugby League teams. The prize money was NZ$2.6 million. The draw was released on 18 November 2015. The same pool names were used as the 2015 tournament's. The pool names were: Hunua, Waiheke, Rangitoto and Piha. The event included two international women's teams, the Kiwiferns and the Jillaroos, who competed in a three-game series. Originally to be sponsored by Dick Smith, the tournament was instead sponsored by Downer Group after Dick Smith went into receivership. The Parramatta Eels who won the tournament were later stripped of the title due to salary cap breaches.

The El Salvador national rugby league team, nicknamed El Trueno Azul, represents El Salvador in rugby league. They had their first international 9's tournament in 2015 in Australia along with Chile in Latin America at the Cabramatta International Nines.

The 2017 NRL Auckland Nines was the fourth NRL Auckland Nines competition. It was held on 4–5 February 2017 at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand. Just like previous tournaments, it was contested by all sixteen National Rugby League teams. The prize money was NZ$2.6 million. The draw for the competition was announced by the NRL on 17 November 2016. The same pool names were used as in the 2015 and 2016 tournaments. The pool names were: Hunua, Waiheke, Rangitoto and Piha. The event included two international women's teams, the Kiwi Ferns and the Jillaroos, who competed in a three-game series won by the Jillaroos for the first time, with a 3-0 clean sweep. The tournament was again sponsored by Downer Group. The Sydney Roosters won the tournament by defeating the Penrith Panthers 10-8 in the final.

The Canada national women's rugby league team, also known as the Canadian Ravens represents Canada in international rugby league football tournaments. Canada have qualified for, and will be competing in the 2021 Women's Rugby League World Cup and the 2025 Women's Rugby League World Cup. Canada previously competed in the 2017 Women's Rugby League World Cup.

The Rugby League World Cup 9s is an international rugby league tournament played in the rugby league nines format of the sport. The competition will be held every four years.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s</span>

The 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s was the first staging of the Rugby League World Cup 9s tournament and took place on 18 and 19 October 2019 at Sydney's Bankwest Stadium. The tournament featured teams from 12 International Rugby League member countries, 4 of which also fielded teams in the women's tournament. In the men's final, Australia defeated New Zealand, while in the women's final, New Zealand defeated Australia.

Rugby league nines at the 2019 Pacific Games was played from 8–9 July 2019 at Apia Park in Samoa. A women's rugby league tournament was introduced for the first time at the Pacific Games.

The 2020 NRL Nines was the fifth edition of the NRL Nines rugby league nines and the first one hosted outside of Auckland. It was played at HBF Park, Perth on 14–15 February 2020. Just like previous tournaments, it was contested by all 16 National Rugby League teams, but for the first time, the four NRL Women's Premiership teams played as well, as opposed to the Jillaroos and Kiwi Ferns like in former editions. The men's tournament was split into four pools of four teams and then into two groups of two teams in each pool. Each side was initially to play two games, against the teams from the other group of their pool. The top two teams in each pool then played off in a knockout-style tournament. The women's tournament, meanwhile, was a round-robin with each team playing three games, one against each of the others, before the top two teams met in the final. The tournament was drawn on 6 December 2019.
