Aminuis Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. It had 7,847 registered voters in 2020 [update] . [1] The district capital is the settlement of Aminuis. The constituency forms part of the border between Namibia and Botswana.
Aminuis Constituency covers an area of 12,994 km2 (5,017 sq mi). It had a population of 12,306 in 2011, down from 12,392 in 2001. [2] Villages and settlements in the Aminuis constituency include:
The constituency also is the home of the traditional seat of the Ovaherero Paramount Chief, at the village of Toasis, situated south of Aminuis. [7] In the Herero and Namaqua War of 1904–1907 the village was the location of the Battle of Toasis on 17 December 1905. Later Chief Hosea Kutako had his homestead there, and currently a community heroes' acre for Ovaherero and Ovambanderu is planned. [8]
Aminuis is traditionally a stronghold of National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO). In the 2004 regional elections, its candidate Erwin Gebhard Uanguta with 2,480 of the 3,944 votes cast. [9]
The 2015 regional election was won by its candidate Peter Kazongominja with 2,413 votes, followed by Utiriua Kavari of the SWAPO Party with 1,785 votes. [10] Councillor Kazongominja (NUDO) was reelected in the 2020 regional election with 1,921 votes, followed by Ishmael Mungunda (SWAPO) with 1,482 votes and independent candidate Isando Kavari with 600 votes. Otjozondjupa is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Otjiwarongo. The region further contains the municipalities of Okahandja and Grootfontein and the towns Okakarara and Otavi. As of 2020, Otjozondjupa had 97,945 registered voters.
Omaheke is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, the least populous region. Its capital is Gobabis. It lies in eastern Namibia on the border with Botswana and is the western extension of the Kalahari Desert. The self-governed villages of Otjinene, Leonardville and Witvlei are situated in the region. As of 2020, Omaheke had 48,594 registered voters.
Gobabis is a town in eastern Namibia. It is the regional capital of the Omaheke Region, and the district capital of the Gobabis electoral constituency. Gobabis is situated 200 km (120 mi) down the B6 motorway from Windhoek to Botswana. The town is 113 km (70 mi) from the Buitepos border post with Botswana, and serves as an important link to South Africa on the tarred Trans-Kalahari Highway. Gobabis is in the heart of the cattle farming area. In fact Gobabis is so proud of its cattle farming that a statue of a large Brahman bull with the inscription "Cattle Country" greets visitors to the town. Gobabis also has its own local airport.
Khomasdal Constituency is a constituency in Windhoek in the Khomas Region of Namibia. As of December 2019 it had 25,550 registered voters. The constituency consists of parts of the suburbs Khomasdal, Katutura, and Otjomuise. It had a population of 43,921 in 2011, up from 27,950 in 2001.
Stefanus "Steve" Orateng Mogotsi is a Namibian politician and former featherweight boxer. A member of SWAPO he contested Kalahari Constituency in his native Omaheke Region in regional elections since 1998. In the 2004 regional elections he won and became councillor, and he also was elected to represent Omaheke in the National Council of Namibia.
Kalahari Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of eastern central Namibia. It had 9,234 inhabitants in 2004 and 5,294 registered voters in 2020. The constituency covers the rural area east of Gobabis as well as Gobabis' Nossobville suburb. The constituency office has been inaugurated in 2009 and is located at the Ben-Hur settlement. Kalahari constituency forms part of the border between Namibia and Botswana.
Endola is an electoral constituency in the Ohangwena Region of Namibia, on the border of Angola. It had 14,100 registered voters in 2020. The constituency covers an area of 328 km2 (127 sq mi) and contains numerous settlements, including part of Ongha. The constituency office is situated at Endola. The constituency had a population of 25,591 in 2011, up from 24,804 in 2001.
Epukiro Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. It had 6,101 inhabitants in 2004 and 4,646 registered voters in 2020. Its district capital is the settlement of Epukiro, it further contains the settlements of Otjinoko, Otjijarua, Omauezonjanda, and Otjimanangombe. The royal homestead of the Ovambanderu people is situated in this constituency in the settlement of Ezorongondo.
Otjombinde Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. It had 6,378 inhabitants in 2004 and 4,879 registered voters in 2020. The district capital of the constituency is the settlement of Otjombinde, and its main economic hub is Talismanus. The constituency forms part of the border between Namibia and Botswana. It contains the settlements of Eiseb, Helena, and Rietfontein.
Otjinene Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. It had 7,400 inhabitants in 2011 and 5,619 registered voters in 2020. Its district capital is the village of Otjinene.
Okorukambe Constituency, until 2013 Steinhausen Constituency, is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. It had 9,066 inhabitants in 2004 and 5,818 registered voters in 2020. Its district capital is the settlement of Steinhausen. It further contains the settlements of Witvlei and Omitara.
Gobabis Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. As of December 2019 it had 13,457 registered voters. The constituency covers the rural area southeast of Gobabis and the town itself, except its eastern Nossobville suburb which belongs to Kalahari Constituency. Gobabis is also the seat of the constituency office.
Okakarara Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. It had 21,336 inhabitants in 2004 and 16,221 registered voters in 2020. The constituency consists of the town of Okakarara and the surrounding rural area.
Omatako Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. It had 11,998 inhabitants in 2004 and 7,372 registered voters in 2020. The constituency is entirely rural with commercial farms accounting for 95% of its 24,879 square kilometres (9,606 sq mi) area. The constituency office is situated at Okandjira, the constituency's only proclaimed settlement. Other populated places are Kalkfeld, Hochfeld and Ovitoto, as well as the Osire refugee camp and the Osona military base. Omatako Constituency is named after the Omatako Mountains, a prominent geological feature of the constituency.
Tsumkwe Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. It had 8,823 inhabitants in 2004 and 7,075 registered voters in 2020. About 2,400 San people live in this constituency. The constituency consists of the settlement of Tsumkwe and the surrounding rural area.
Otjinene is a village in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. It is the district capital of the Otjinene Constituency. Otjinene is connected via a 157 kilometres (98 mi) tarred road to the regional capital Gobabis, and via a 227 kilometres (141 mi) road which was tarred in 2017, to Grootfontein.
Witvlei is a village in the Okarukambe Constituency in the Omaheke Region of central-eastern Namibia. It is situated on the B6 150 kilometres (93 mi) from Windhoek on the way to Gobabis. It is known for producing high quality meat.
Leonardville is a village in eastern Namibia, situated on the Nossob River in the south-western corner of the Omaheke Region. It belongs to the Aminuis electoral constituency.
Aminuis is a cluster of small settlements in the remote eastern part of the Omaheke Region of Namibia, located about 500 km east of Windhoek. It is the district capital of the Aminuis electoral constituency.
Opuwo Urban is a constituency in the Kunene Region of Namibia. It comprises the townlands of Opuwo, which is also its administrative centre. As of 2020, it has 10,590 registered voters.
