Amol Ramsing Kolhe is an Indian actor turned politician who is the current Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Shirur and member of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar). [1]

Early life

Kolhe was born in the town of Narayangaon in Pune district. He attended Apte School in Pune from 9th to 12th grade. After High school, he earned a MBBS degree from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Mumbai. [2]

Acting career

He is popular for his role of Chhatrapati Shivaji in Marathi TV Shows Raja Shivchatrapati which aired on Star Pravah and Swarajya Janani Jijamata which aired on Sony Marathi as well as Chhatrapati Sambhaji in Marathi TV Series Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji on Zee Marathi. [3] In 2017 he played the controversial role of Nathuram Godse in the film Why I Killed Gandhi . [4]

Political career

Kolhe was a star campaigner for Shiv Sena in 2014 Indian General Election, [5] but joined Nationalist Congress Party in February 2019. [6] In 2019 Indian general election, he defeated Shivajirao Adhalarao Patil of Shiv Sena and was elected as a Member of Parliament from Shirur. [1] [7]

Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar is an Indian politician. The Nationalist Congress Party is one of the state parties in India. It refers to the Ajit Pawar faction after the 2023 split in the party when the Supreme Court of India granted the original party name and symbol to the Nationalist Congress Party. It was one of the major political parties in Maharashtra and was a recognised state party in Nagaland and Kerala. In July 2023, majority of the elected MLAs and MLCs of the party led by Ajit Pawar joined the National Democratic Alliance government, however, all MPs except two remained loyal to Sharad Pawar. This caused a direct split between the Ajit Pawar-led faction and the founder and president Sharad Pawar who formed the Nationalist Congress Party after EC recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the original party. Under the leadership of Ajit Pawar, the NCP revamped itself and adopted the color pink to associate with the party.

Sambhaji Brigade is a Maratha outfit, based in Maharashtra, India. It is a branch of the Maratha Seva Sangh. The Brigade is named after the Maratha king Sambhaji son of the first Maratha king Shivaji.

The 2008 attacks on Uttar Pradeshi and Bihari migrants in Maharashtra began on 3 February 2008 after violent clashes between workers of two political parties—Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Samajwadi Party (SP)—at Dadar in Mumbai, capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The clashes took place when workers of MNS, a splinter faction formed out of the Shiv Sena, tried to attack workers of SP, the regional party based in Uttar Pradesh, who were proceeding to attend a rally organised by the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA). Defending his party's stand, MNS chief Raj Thackeray explained that the attack was a reaction to the "provocative and unnecessary show of strength" and "uncontrolled political and cultural dadagiri (bullying) of Uttar Pradeshi and Bihari migrants and their leaders".

Anand Prakash Paranjpe is an Industrialist and an elected member of the 15th Lok Sabha elections from Kalyan in Maharashtra, then representing the Shiv Sena Party. He joined Nationalist Congress Party before 2014 general elections.
