Anambra East

Anambra East is a Local Government Area in Anambra State, south-central Nigeria. Towns that make up the local government are Aguleri, Enugwu Aguleri, Eziagulu Otu Aguleri, Enugwu Otu Aguleri, Mkpunando-otu Aguleri, Ikem Ivite, Igbariam, Umuoba Anam, Nando, Umueri, and Nsugbe. [2] It is part of the Greater Onitsha Metropolis.

In Anambra East, oil and gas were discovered in large quantities on the bank of Aguleri town and the president has commissioned exploration on the site and the operational head office of Orient Petroleum and Housing estate is about to be sited in Aguleri by the Orient Petroleum Resources.

Currently, Anambra East local government area recorded history with the successful landing and take-off of the Embraer ERJ 145 jet operated by Air Peace. [3] Anambra State government signed a two billion dollar Memorandum of Understanding with Orient Petroleum Resources and Elite International Investment Limited for the building of an international airport city in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area. [4] [5]

Economy

Yam, rice, cassava, and cocoyam are the main crops grown in the Anambra east LGA, which is both commercial and agricultural. Markets including the Otuocha market, the New parts market, and the Afia Ama market contribute significantly to the area's economic reputation. With significant crude oil deposits discovered in Aguleri town, Anambra East is also endowed with abundant mineral resources. [6]

Climate

Anambra East LGA's average temperature is 27.5°C, with a humidity of 79%. The region has two significant seasons: the dry season, which runs from November to March, and the rainy season, which lasts from April to October. [7]

Onitsha North is a Local Government Area in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria. The headquarters is in GRA, Onitsha. Onitsha is the only town in Onitsha North and Onitsha South LGA. Onitsha North has a boundary by Idemili North and Oyi local government areas to the East, Anambra East local government area to the North, Onitsha South local government area by the South and Delta State by the West. Nsugbe is a town in Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria.It is a suburb of Onitsha.

Aguleri is a medium-sized town situated in the Anambra Valley in southeastern Nigeria, a country on the west coast of Africa. It is the largest town in the Anambra East local government area of Anambra State. It is the town of the newly established Roman Catholic Diocese of Aguleri.

The Anambra River flows 210 kilometres (130 mi) into the Niger River and is found in Anambra, Nigeria. The river is the most important feeder of the River Niger below Lokoja. Otuocha is a populated town in Nigeria and serves as the capital of Anambra East, a local government area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It was previously a divisional headquarters of the Anambra Divisional Council during the First Republic of Nigeria (1963–1966). Otuocha was located on the northern side of Biafra, a short-lived nation, and was one of the food baskets of the nation due to its large market during the Nigerian Civil War. It was also regarded as the oldest Local Government headquarters of old Anambra before 1991 when it was split to make up the four prevalent local governments: Anambra East, Anambra West, Oyi, and Ayamelum.

Umueri, also known and pronounced as Umuleri, is a town in Anambra State of southeastern Nigeria. The settlement is populated primarily Igbo, and has an estimated population of 1,500,000. The forebears are widely acknowledged as the first settler in Omambala valley.

Iyiora Anam is one of the towns in Anam City, located on the Ivite Anam part of the city in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, South-Eastern Nigeria. Iyiora is one of the oldest villages in Anam and also one of the smallest towns in Anam with less than 15,000 inhabitants. Iyiora shares boundaries with Umuoba Anam from the north, Aguleri from the west, and Umueze Anam from the south. Iyiora Anam is known for their strong-willed, and peaceful nature. Iyiora is one of the communities in Anambra West of Anambra State. The community is prone to flooding which usually affects their homes and their agricultural activities. There is a government school in Iyiora Anam called Iyiora Central School, Iyiora.

Nando is a town in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It is located at the Awkuzu junction boundary with Nteje, Aguleri and Igbariam.

Anambra North senatorial district in Anambra State covers seven local government areas which include Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Oyi, Ogbaru, Anambra East, Anambra West and Ayamelum. There are 1,392 Polling Units (Pus) and 99 Registration Areas (RAs). Onitsha North LGA INEC Office is the collation centre. A president of the 4th Senate between 1999 and 2000, Chuba Okadigbo is from this district. Stella Oduah of the people’s Democratic Party is the current representative of Anambra North Senatorial District.

The 2017 Anambra State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on 18 November 2017, the APGA nominee Willie Obiano won re-election, defeating Tony Nwoye of the APC.
