Andrei Vasile Muntean (born 30 January 1993) [1] is a Romanian artistic gymnast. He represented Romania at the 2016 Summer Olympics and placed sixth on the parallel bars. He is the 2017 World University Games vault bronze medalist. He has competed at the World Championships eight times, and he will represent Romania at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
At the junior level, Muntean is the 2010 European parallel bars champion. He won the gold medal on the rings at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, becoming Romania's first-ever Youth Olympic Games champion. He also won a silver medal on the parallel bars.
Muntean joined the junior national team when he was 13 years old in 2006. [3] He made his international debut at the 2006 Junior European Championships where he helped the Romanian team place fifth. [4] At the 2009 European Youth Olympic Festival, he won a silver medal on the floor exercise behind Russia's David Belyavskiy and a bronze medal with the Romanian team. [5]
Muntean competed at the 2010 Junior European Championships, placing seventh in the all-around final and fourth in the rings final. Then in the parallel bars final, he won the title by 0.050 over Swiss gymnast Oliver Hegi. [6] He then represented Romania at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. His first event was the all-around final, where he finished in fourth place, only 0.050 behind the bronze medalist. He also qualified for the pommel horse final where and eighth. [7] In the rings final, he had the highest difficulty score of the event and won the gold medal. This was the first time Romania won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games. [3] [8] He also won a silver medal in the parallel bars final behind Ukraine's Oleg Stepko. [7]
Muntean became age-eligible for senior international competition in 2011, but he missed most of the year due to an injury. [3]
Muntean won the gold medal on the parallel bars at the 2013 Doha World Challenge Cup. [9] Then at the 2013 European Championships in Moscow, he qualified for the parallel bars final where he placed seventh. He represented Romania at the 2013 Summer Universiade and helped the team place seventh. He made his World Championships debut in 2013, but he did not advance into any finals. [10]
At the 2014 European Championships, Muntean contributed on five of the six apparatus towards Romania's seventh-place finish. Individually, he qualified for the parallel bars final and placed sixth. [11] He finished 33rd in the all-around during the qualification round of the 2014 World Championships, making him the third reserve for the all-around final. [12]
Muntean won bronze medals on both the still rings and parallel bars at the 2015 Doha World Challenge Cup, and he placed fourth on the vault. [13] He then finished fifth in the parallel bars event final at the 2015 European Championships. [14] Then at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, he helped Romania qualify for the 2016 Olympic Test Event with a 14th-place finish. [15] [16] Individually, he placed 11th on the vault, making him the third reserve for the event final. [17] At the Test Event, the Romanian team placed fifth. [18] Although they did not qualify as a team, Romania earned a non-nominative individual berth to the 2016 Olympics. [19] Muntean was selected to compete by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. [1]
Before the Olympic Games, Muntean competed at the 2016 European Championships and finished fifth in the parallel bars final. [20] Three weeks before the 2016 Olympic Games, he injured his right shoulder. He chose to still compete, but he reduced the difficulty of his routines. [3] At the Olympics, Muntean finished 36th in the all-around during the qualification round, and he qualified for the parallel bars final. [21] In the parallel bars final, he tied for the highest execution score in the final, but he finished sixth overall due to his lower difficulty score. [22] He had surgery on his shoulder in November 2016. [3]
Muntean represented Romania at the 2017 Summer Universiade, helping the Romanian team place 14th. [23] Individually, he qualified for the vault final where he won the bronze medal behind Audrys Nin Reyes and Oleg Verniaiev. [24] He then competed at the 2017 World Championships but did not qualify for any finals. [25] He qualified for the rings final at the 2018 European Championships, finishing eighth. [26]
Muntean won the silver medal on parallel bars at the 2018 Koper World Challenge Cup behind Đinh Phương Thành. [27] Then at the Guimarães World Challenge Cup, he won silver medals on the rings and on the parallel bars, both behind Manrique Larduet. [28] At the Mersin World Challenge Cup, he won the parallel bars title and won the silver medal on rings behind İbrahim Çolak. [29] He won the overall World Challenge Cup parallel bars titles for having the best results across the series, and he was second on the still rings behind Çolak. [30] He qualified for the all-around final at the 2018 World Championships in Doha, finishing 22nd. [31]
Muntean only competed on the floor exercise at the 2019 European Championships, but he did not qualify for the event final. [32] He then competed at the 2019 World Championships, finishing 56th in the all-around during the qualification round. [33] He finished ninth with the Romanian team in the qualification round of the 2020 European Championships. [34]
Muntean was the first reserve for the parallel bars final at the 2021 European Championships. [35] He took a break from competition for the rest of 2021, but he returned to competition at the 2022 Koper World Challenge Cup in June. [3] There, he won the silver medal on the parallel bars behind Ukraine's Petro Pakhnyuk, and he placed fifth on rings. [36] In August, he competed with the Romanian team that placed 10th at the 2022 European Championships. [37] Then at the Mersin World Challenge Cup, he won a bronze medal on parallel bars and placed fourth on rings and sixth on floor exercise. [38] He competed at the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool, helping the Romanian team finish 19th in the qualification round. [39]
Muntean finished fourth in the parallel bars final at the 2023 European Championships. [40] Then at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, Muntean finished 30th in the all-around during the qualification round, making him the fourth reserve for the final. As the eighth highest-ranked gymnast from a country that did not qualify a full team, he received an individual quota for the 2024 Olympic Games. [41]
Muntean began the Olympic season at the Antalya World Challenge Cup where he won the bronze medal on the parallel bars behind Nicolau Mir and Radomyr Stelmakh. [42]

Yernar Saparbekovich Yerimbetov is a Kazakhstani artistic gymnast. He is the 2006 Asian Games vault bronze medalist and the 2003 Summer Universiade vault and parallel bars champion and all-around silver medalist. He represented Kazakhstan at the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing 14th in the all-around and eighth in the parallel bars final.
Larisa Andreea Iordache is a Romanian former artistic gymnast. She represented Romania at the 2012 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal with the team, and at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Robert Tvorogal is a Lithuanian artistic gymnast of Polish ethnicity. He is the 2019 European Games champion on the horizontal bar. He became the first Lithuanian to win a gold medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships when he won the horizontal bar title at the 2020 European Championships. He is also the 2022 European horizontal bar silver medalist and the 2020 European parallel bars bronze medalist. He represented Lithuania at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympic Games.

Oleg Yuriyovych Verniaiev is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast. He is the 2016 Olympic parallel bars champion and individual all-around silver medalist. Verniaiev is also the 2014 World parallel bars champion, the 2015 European individual all-around champion and the 2017 European individual all-around champion.
Manrique Larduet Bicet is a Cuban artistic gymnast. At the 2015 World Championships, he won the silver medal in the all-around- becoming Cuba's first World all-around medalist. He is also the 2015 World horizontal bar bronze medalist, and he represented Cuba at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He is the 2015 Pan American Games vault champion and all-around silver medalist. He is the 2018 Pan American all-around champion and a two-time Pan American champion on the parallel bars At the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival he won medals in every event, including the all-around gold. He withdrew from the 2020 Summer Olympics due to a dispute with the Cuban Gymnastics Federation, and he now lives and trains in Italy.
Casimir Schmidt is a Dutch artistic gymnast. He won the silver medal on the vault at the 2015 European Games. He is a four-time Dutch national all-around champion. He represented the Netherlands at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
İbrahim Çolak is a Turkish artistic gymnast who is primarily a rings specialist. He is the 2019 World champion on the rings and the first Turkish gymnast to medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He also became Turkey's first European champion in artistic gymnastics when he won gold on the rings at the 2020 European Championships. He is also the 2018 European silver medalist on the rings and the 2020 European silver medalist with the Turkish team. He is the 2022 Mediterranean Games champion on the rings and in the team event. He won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Games and the silver medal at the 2013 Mediterranean Games on the rings. He represented Turkey at the 2020 Summer Olympics where he finished fifth in the rings final.
Marios Georgiou is a Cypriot artistic gymnast. He is the 2024 European all-around champion, and the 2022 European horizontal bar champion and the first gymnast from Cyprus to win a European title, and a major all-around title. He is the 2019 European Championships all-around bronze medalist which made him the first gymnast from Cyprus to win a European medal. He is the 2019 European Games parallel bars silver medalist. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medals in the floor exercise and parallel bars and the bronze medal in the all-around, and he won four bronze medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He is the 2018 Mediterranean Games all-around and horizontal bar champion and the 2022 Mediterranean Games horizontal bar champion. He competed at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympic Games.
Illia Yuriiovych Kovtun is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast. He is the 2023 World all-around silver medalist and 2021 World all-around bronze medalist. Kovtun also won the silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics on parallel bars. At the European Championships he is the 2023 European champion on parallel bars as well as a one-time silver medalist and a three-time bronze medalist. Additionally he is a two-time junior world championships medalist.
Audrys Nin Reyes is a Dominican artistic gymnast. He is the 2019 and 2023 Pan American Games vault champion. He was the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at the Pan American Games. He was also the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at an FIG World Cup event when he won the vault title at the 2017 Osijek World Challenge Cup. He is the 2017 Pan American vault and horizontal bar champion and the 2017 Universiade vault champion. He is also the 2018 and 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games vault champion. He has qualified to represent the Dominican Republic at the 2024 Summer Olympics, the first male gymnast from his country to do so.
Matvei Sergeyevich Petrov is a Russian-born Albanian artistic gymnast. He is the 2020 European Champion on the pommel horse, and he is Albania's first European medalist. He represented Albania at the 2020 Summer Olympics and was the first reserve for the pommel horse final after finishing tenth in the qualification round.
Aurel Benović is a Croatian artistic gymnast. He is the 2020 European Championships floor exercise silver medalist. He represented Croatia at the 2024 Summer Olympics and finished fifth in the vault final.
