American singer-songwriter Anita Baker has released six studio albums, one compilation & live album, and twenty-four singles. Referred as the "Queen of Romantic Quiet-Storm R&B/Soul", [1] she is considered to be one of the most successful and influential R&B artists of the 1980s. [2] According to Recording Industry Association of America, Baker has sold 13 million certified albums in the United States, including three multi-platinum albums. [3] She has also scored 5 number-one hits on Billboard's Adult R&B Airplay and 13 top ten hits on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. [4]
Baker's debut album The Songstress peaked at number twelve on Billboard's Top R&B Albums and has sold nearly half a million copies worldwide. [5] Rapture (1986) remains the best-selling album of her career, with sales of over 8 million copies worldwide. [6] It peaked at number 11 on Billboard 200 and is certified 5× Platinum in the United States. [7] Giving You the Best That I Got (1988) became Bakers first and only album to reach number one on Billboard 200. It also produced the highest-peaking single of her career on the Billboard Hot 100, which notably peaked at number three. [4] To date, the album has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.[ citation needed ] In 1990, Baker released her fourth studio-album Compositions . It peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and number seven on the UK Albums Chart. It reportedly sold a million copies in its first week alone and eventually became her third consecutive platinum-selling album in the US. Ten years after her prior studio record, Baker made her comeback with her sixth studio album My Everything . It debuted at number four on US Billboard 200, selling 132,000 copies in its first week and was eventually certified gold by the RIAA. [10]

What's the 411? is the debut album by American R&B singer Mary J. Blige. It was released on July 28, 1992, by Uptown Records and MCA Records. After signing a record contract with Uptown, Blige began working on the album with producer Sean "Puffy" Combs. Other producers and songwriters included DeVante Swing, Tony Dofat, Dave Hall, Mark Morales and Mark "Cory" Rooney. The resulting music covered hip hop soul, contemporary R&B, and new jack swing styles.

Ill Na Na is the debut studio album by American rapper Foxy Brown. It was released on November 19, 1996, by Def Jam Recordings. It was reissued on September 29, 1997, in the UK with an addition of the song "Big Bad Mamma". Brown began working on the album after being discovered by the production team Trackmasters and appearing on a number of singles by other artists, such as LL Cool J, Case and Jay Z. The immediate success of the singles led to a bidding war at the beginning of 1996, and in March, Def Jam Recordings won and signed the then 17-year-old rapper to the label. Mostly produced by Trackmasters, Ill Na Na features guest appearances from Blackstreet, Havoc, Method Man, Kid Capri and Jay Z. Lyrically, the album mainly focuses on themes of fashion, sex and mafia.
