All 38 contestants from 33 provinces competed for the crown. The winner will represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2017, while the runners-up will compete at the Miss International 2017, Miss Supranational 2017, and Miss Grand International 2017. Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere of France and Miss Grand International 2016 Ariska Putri Pertiwi of Indonesia attend at the Grand Final Show. Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova of Canada also attended the show as a judge.

Bunga Jelitha, Puteri Indonesia 2017 of Jakarta Special Region 5 crowned her successor, Sonia Fergina Citra from Bangka Belitung, at the end of the event. She defeated 38 other candidates to win the title of Miss Universe Indonesia 2018 and will now represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2018.

Jolene Marie Cholock Rotinsulu of North Sulawesi was crowned as Miss International Indonesia 2019 by the reigning Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2018, Top 15 Miss International 2018, Vania Fitryanti Herlambang, She will represent Indonesia at the Miss International 2019. Jesica Fitriana Martasari of West Java was crowned as Miss Supranational Indonesia 2019 by the reigning Puteri Indonesia Pariwisata 2018 and the 3rd Runner Up Miss Supranational 2018, Wilda Octaviana Situngkir, She will represent Indonesia at the Miss Supranational 2019.

Since 2020, The president of Miss Grand Indonesia Organization is Ivan Gunawan, Indonesian designer and entertainer. The first Miss Grand Indonesia Competition was held in 2018 by Yayasan Dharma Gantari. In 2020, Gandhi Fernando got the license of Miss Intercontinental and collaboration with Yayasan Dunia Mega Bintang that choose the runner-up of Miss Grand Indonesia to compete in Miss Intercontinental only for 2021 edition. In April 2021, Yayasan Dunia Mega Bintang announced that they will send another Miss Grand Indonesia finalist to the Miss Face of Humanity 2021. The current titleholder is Andina Julie from South Sumatra as Miss Grand Indonesia 2022.
