Anthony Raye Ketchum (born November 20, 1962) is an American former sprinter. [1]

He attended Needville High School in Texas and in 1981 set a state high school record for the 400-meter dash, with a time of 45.64 seconds. [2] [3] He was highly successful at school level, winning four straight titles in the 440-yard dash/400-meter dash from 1978 to 1981 at the UIL Texas State Track and Field Championships (the second man to do so after Kenneth Thomas of Wortham). [4] [5] He was the number one ranked high school athlete in the discipline in 1981 according to Track and Field News . [6]

Ketchum placed fifth nationally in the 400 m at the 1981 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and also fourth at the AAA Championships in the United Kingdom. His season's best of 45.69 seconds ranked him 26th globally. [7] He was runner-up at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships in the 100-meter dash, taking second to Darren Walker. [8] During this period he was coached by Jack Petty. [9]

He made his first appearances at international level in 1981. At the 1981 IAAF World Cup, his performance in the 4×100-meter relay alongside Mel Lattany, Stanley Floyd and Steve Williams brought the United States team the bronze medal. [10] A gold medal in that event also came at that year's Universiade, as the American team of Lattany, Ketchum, Jason Grimes and Calvin Smith topped the podium. [11]

After graduating from high school, he began to attend the University of Houston and was coached by Tom Tellez as part of the institution's high calibre Houston Cougars track team (which had recently featured Carl Lewis). [12] In his first year, he won the 440-yard dash title at the NCAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, recording a time of 47.47 seconds to take his first collegiate title. [13] Outdoors, he helped the team's 4 × 100 m relay quartet (including Carlton Young, Mark McNeil, and Stanley Floyd) to a world under-23 best time for the event in 38.53 seconds. [14] Ketchum claimed the relay title with the Cougars at the 1982 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in an American collegiate record of 39:12 seconds. [15] [16] His best individual run of 45.72 seconds that year ranked him in the top 40 globally. [17]

He only competed at the start of the 1983, his best of 45.77 seconds coming at the Mt. SAC Relays, where he was runner-up. [18] At this point he started to focus on playing American football instead. Ketchum played for the Houston Cougars football team from 1983 to 1985 as a wide receiver and kickoff returner. [19] He played three games professionally for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, briefly staying at the Canadian football team in the 1987 season. [20] Towards the end of his career, he was part of the Detroit Lions team in the late 1980s, but was released in 1989. [21]

Angelo F. Taylor is an American track and field athlete, winner of 400-meter hurdles at the 2000 and 2008 Summer Olympics. His personal record for the hurdles event is 47.25 seconds. His time puts him in a tie with Félix Sánchez for the #14 performer of all time. Sánchez also won two Olympic gold medals, in 2004 between Taylor's two golds and 2012, immediately following. Taylor also has a 400-meter dash best of 44.05 seconds, ranking him as the joint 29th performer of all time, superior to any other athlete who has made a serious effort in the 400 metres hurdles. He won the bronze medal in the 400 m at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics.

Natasha Kaiser-Brown is an American sprinter who specialized in the 400 meter run. As of 2022, she is the head coach of track and field at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.

Jeshua Anderson is a retired American sprinter, who specializes in the 400 meter hurdles. He is a 3 time NCAA champion in the 400m hurdles and was the second freshman from Washington State University to ever win the NCAA title. In 2008 Anderson was 400 meter hurdles Junior World Champion and holds the second fastest high school time recorded in the 300m hurdles. He was born and raised in Woodland Hills, California and attended Taft High School. After winning the 2011 Outdoor Championships, Anderson had the competed for team USA at the world championships. He also participated in the 2016 Olympic trials in which he finished as a finalist.

Kyle Clemons is an American track and field sprinter who competed collegiately for the Kansas Jayhawks and specializes in the 400-meter dash. He was the 2014 champion at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships and won a bronze medal at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. His personal best for the event is 44.79.

Garry Brown is an Australian former track and field athlete who specialised in the 400 metres hurdles. He was the champion in that event at the 1982 Commonwealth Games after winning two minor medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. His personal best of 49.37 seconds was set as part of his Commonwealth win.

Randy Jenelle Givens is an American former track and field athlete who competed in sprinting events. She set personal bests of 11.06 seconds for the 100-meter dash and 22.31 seconds for the 200-meter dash. Givens was a 200 m finalist at the 1984 Olympic Games and represented her country at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics. She was the 200 m gold medalist at the 1983 Pan American Games and returned to win a silver medal at the 1987 edition.

Kendall Baisden is an American track and field sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter dash. She holds a personal record of 50.46 seconds for the distance, set in 2014.

D'Andre "DeeDee" Hill is an American track and field coach and former athlete. She competed in sprint events, mainly in 100-meter dash. Her personal record in the event was 10.92 seconds. She represented her country over 100 m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and shared in a gold medal in the 4×100-meter relay at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, having run in the heats only.

Cameron Burrell was an American sprinter. He was the NCAA Division I champion over 100 meters in 2018, and anchored the Houston Cougars to victory in the 4 × 100 meters relay in 2017 and 2018. He ran for the United States 4 × 100 m relay team at the World Junior Championships in 2012 and the World Relays in 2019, with the team earning gold and silver from each competition respectively. Additionally Burrell anchored the U.S. 4 × 100 m relay team to gold at the inaugural Athletics World Cup in 2018.

Elijah Hall-Thompson is an American track and field sprinter and American record holder in the indoor 200 meters. At the NCAA Division I Championships he helped the Houston Cougars win and set the collegiate record in the 4 × 100 meters relay in 2018, and won both the 60 meters and the 200 meters at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in 2018. His winning time of 20.02 seconds in the 200 meters is the second fastest time ever achieved over the distance indoors.

Kahmari Montgomery is an American track and field sprinter specializing in the 400 m for Nike. He was the men's 400 m champion at the USA Championships in 2018, and at the NCAA Division I Championships in 2019. He represented the United States in the 4 × 400 m relay at the World U20 Championships in 2016 and at the inaugural Athletics World Cup in 2018, earning gold medals in both competitions.

Matthew Boling is an American track and field athlete specializing in the sprints and long jump. He won four gold medals at the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships in the 100 m, 200 m, 4 × 100 m relay and 4 × 400 m relay, and helped set world under-20 records in both of the relay races for the United States. He also ran in the semi-final for the American 4 × 400 m relay team at the 2018 World U20 Championships that went on to earn silver in the final. Boling would later go on to win a gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the mixed 4 x 400 m relay, and would help set a world record for the event in the process.
