Antidawn is an EP by British electronic musician Burial, released 6 January 2022 via Hyperdub. [1]
Antidawn is a collection of beatless ambient music, cementing the direction that Burial had taken since his late 2010s work, [2] and was his most ambient work yet. [3] The tracks have unconventional structures and focus on distorted vocal samples and crackles, combining into a "loose, amorphous soundscape". [4] Tom Kingsley of Clash Music wrote that Burial's only previous track "that comes close" to Antidawn was the 2021 B-side "Dolphinz". [4] Resident Advisor reviewer Emeka Okonkwo described it as a release of "spectral, wintery ambient sound-collages" and compared it to previous Burial tracks "Rival Dealer" and "Beachfires". [3] For Loud and Quiet critic Luke Cartledge, the EP is a "familiar blend of rainy, minor-key textures and forlorn-sounding field recordings". [5] "New Love" is the only track to contain percussive elements, although they are vague and distant. [4]
Kingsley compared the music to the KLF's Chill Out (1990) due to their use of collage "as a way to convey a sense of movement, not only through space ("all the way down the East Coast") but through time" and for their use of musique concrète, "piecing together functional, everyday sounds – the strike of a lighter, coughs and muffled voices, metallic clangs – to create something totally otherworldly." According to the review aggregator Metacritic , Antidawn received "universal acclaim" based on a weighted average score of 81 out of 100 from 7 critic scores. [7]
John Wohlmacher of Beats Per Minute wrote, "At almost 44 minutes and rich in complex structures, these five sound collages are state of the art electronic compositions that unite the elements present on his LPs with the vapor-like ambience of his 12 inch output." [8] In Crack , Jasmine Kent-Smith described Anitidawn as "a loosely-stitched patchwork of hums, crackles and clicks, plus organic sounds such as the clearing of a throat". While noting that some Burial fans may find it disappointing on comparison to Untrue (2007), the writer deemed it an impressive release that would grow on listeners, who would come to enjoy Burial's fixation on his "ambient inclinations". [10] Tom Kinsley of Clash similarly described it as "delicate, complex music that demands relistening". He said that while listeners expecting "another dubstep masterpiece" would initially find the EP frustrating, it would grow on open-minded listeners. "Love it or hate it," he concluded, "Antidawn is one of the most unique releases you’re likely to hear in 2022." [4]

...I Care Because You Do is the third studio album by electronic musician Richard D. James under the alias Aphex Twin, released on 24 April 1995 by Warp. Containing material recorded between 1990 and 1994, the album marked James's return to a percussive sound following the largely beatless Selected Ambient Works Volume II (1994), and pairs abrasive rhythms with symphonic and ambient elements. In music, montage or sound collage is a technique where newly branded sound objects or compositions, including songs, are created from collage, also known as Musique concrète. This is often done through the use of sampling, while some sound collages are produced by gluing together sectors of different vinyl records. Like its visual cousin, sound collage works may have a completely different effect than that of the component parts, even if the original parts are recognizable or from a single source. Audio collage was a feature of the audio art of John Cage, Fluxus, postmodern hip-hop and postconceptual digital art.
Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror is a 1980 studio album by Harold Budd and Brian Eno. In Japan and selected world markets, Hyperdub issued Kindred as a compilation with Burial's previous EP Street Halo on 11 February 2012. The release, Street Halo / Kindred, placed on the Ultratop 50 albums chart.

Young Death / Nightmarket is the eighth extended play released by William Emmanuel Bevan, an electronic musician known by his stage name Burial, and the 100th release in the catalog of the Hyperdub label. It departs from his previous two extended plays, Kindred (2012) and Rival Dealer (2013), in that it returns to Burial's signature sound consisting of vinyl crackle sounds, rain-filled atmospheres and vocal samples that was on records like Untrue (2007). It is also less dance-based than previous releases by the producer, with the percussion of "Young Death" being submerged by other sounds and "Nightmarket" being devoid of any drum beats.

We'll All Go Riding on a Rainbow is the third studio album by the Caretaker, an alias of musician Leyland Kirby. Released in 2003, it was the last of Kirby's "haunted ballroom trilogy", which spans his albums influenced by the film The Shining. It features looped melodies and vinyl crackle to create the ambience of The Shining's ballroom, with its artwork emphasizing this style. We'll All Go Riding on a Rainbow was met with positive reception from music critics, who praised its haunted ballroom ambiance. However, other critics felt that the album's length was an issue. Kirby's next album as the Caretaker, Theoretically Pure Anterograde Amnesia (2005) would abandon the haunted ballroom concept and install themes of memory loss.
