The Aqua Centurions is a professional swimming club and one of the original eight clubs of the International Swimming League. The team is based in Rome, IT led by general manager Alessandra Guerra and head coach Matteo Giunta.

Contents

The team participated at three matches in the first ISL season, starting with the first match in Indianapolis, USA, then Naples, [1] Italy, continued and finished at the European Derby in London, UK, without making it to the Final in Las Vegas, USA. [2]

2019 International Swimming League season

Team roster

ISL teams had a maximum roster of 32 athletes for 2019 season, with a suggested size of each club's travelling roster of 28 (14 men and 14 women). Each club had a captain and a vice-captain of different gender.

Centurions had a majority of Italians on their team with athletes from seven other countries around the world. [3]

Match results

In the 2019 inaugural ISL season, the Aqua Centurions fought despite the lack in athletes specialize in the Skin Races.

After the first race in Indianapolis, the Team improved in the "Home Edition" in Naples, Italy, with extraordinary results by Nicolò Martinenghi that almost had the same number of points than the MVP Caeleb Dressel in the first day, with only a four points difference. [5] Due to an unlucky disqualification of Margherita Panziera [6] the Team arrived 4^th for only half a point.

In the last race, the European Derby, the Centurions finished 3^rd behind Energy Standard and London Roar who eventually went on to place 1^st and 2^nd in the Championship Final in Las Vegas. [7]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 International Swimming League</span> Sports season

The 2021 International Swimming League was the third edition of the International Swimming League, a professional swimming league, established in 2019. It comprised ten teams composed of both women and men. The league, due to COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions, consisted of a total of eighteen short course swimming meets, called matches, spanning four stages of competition and held in two locations. In each match, swimmers from four different teams competed in individual, relay, and skins events. The ten regular season matches and one play in match took place in the city of Naples, Italy. The six play off matches in the semifinals stage of competition took place in the city of Eindhoven, Netherlands, as did the final match.

Lorenzo Mora is a competitive Italian swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 4×50 metre medley relay. He is the Italian record holder in the short course 100 metre backstroke and 200 metre backstroke. In the 50 metre backstroke, he won the silver medal at the 2021 World Short Course Championships and the bronze medal at the 2022 Mediterranean Games. In the 100 metre backstroke, he won the silver medal at each the 2022 World Short Course Championships and the 2022 Mediterranean Games. In the 200 metre backstroke, he won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Short Course Championships, the silver medal at the 2021 European Short Course Championships, and the gold medal at the 2022 Mediterranean Games.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Piscina Felice Scandone</span> Swimming venue in Naples, Italy

Piscina Felice Scandone is a swimming pool complex located in Naples, Italy. The complex was named after Italian sports journalist and enthusiast Felice Scandone, who reported on sports in the Naples area. Construction of the venue began in 1960 and in 1963 the venue opened. It is owned and maintained by the municipality of Naples.

Alessandro Pinzuti is an Italian competitive swimmer. He won a gold medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay and the bronze medal in the 100 metre breaststroke at the 2022 Mediterranean Games. At the 2020 European Aquatics Championships, he won a bronze medal as part of the 4×100 metre medley relay, placed seventh in the 100 metre breaststroke and eighth in the 50 metre breaststroke. At the junior level, he won silver medals in the 50 metre breaststroke at the 2017 World Junior Championships and the 2017 European Junior Championships as well as a bronze medal in the 100 metre breaststroke at the 2017 European Junior Championships.
