Aron Kifle Teklu (born 20 February 1998) is an Eritrean long-distance runner. [1] He is the bronze medallist from the 2018 World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia. Aron is also the silver medallist in the 10000m from both the 2016 World U20 Championships and the 2019 All-African Games. [2]
Kifle began competing internationally in 2015. On 28 March, he raced in the U20 race at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China, placing 19th. Aron finished 11th in his heat of the 5000m at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics, not qualifying for the final. [3]
In 2016, Kifle competed at the World U20 Championships and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. On 11 July, Aron raced the Leiden Golden Spike 10000m in the Netherlands. He won the race in 27:27.04. On 19 July, Aron placed second in 27:26.20 in the 10000m at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. On 23 July, Aron contested the 5000m at the IAAF World U20 Championships, placing 5th in 13:31.09. [4]
In 2017 Aron placed 5th at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda; the race was won by Kenya's Geoffrey Kamworor. [5] Aron competed in both the 10000m and 5000m at the 2017 London World Championships in Athletics. In the 10000m, Aron placed 11th in 27:09.92. The race was won by Great Britain's Mo Farah, who ran 26:49.51. [6] On 12 August Aron raced the 5000m placing 7th in 13:36.91, Ethiopia's Muktar Edris won the race. [7]
On 10 February 2018, Aron won the Eritrean Half Marathon Championships in Massawa, Eritrea in a time of 1:01:08. [8] Aron represented Eritrea at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain, placing 3rd in 1:00:31. Kenya's Geoffrey Kamworor won the race in 1:00:02 and Bahrain's Abraham Cheroben placed 2nd in 1:00:22. [9] On 21 October Aron placed 4th at the New Delhi Half Marathon in 59:51.
On 20 March 2019, Aron raced the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark. Aron ran in the lead pack for much of the race finishing behind Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo, and Geoffrey Kamworor, respectively. [10] On 27 August Aron raced at the African Games in Rabat, where he finished 2nd in the 10000m in 27:57.79. The first finisher was Ethiopia's Berehanu Tsegu; however, Berehanu tested positive for EPO and was disqualified. [11] On 6 October Aron raced the 10000m at the 2019 World Championships in Athletics in Doha, Qatar, placing 14th in 28:16.74; the race was won by Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei. [12] Aron then raced the Valencia Half Marathon on 27 October placing 5th in 1:00:25. [13]
On 12 January 2020 Aron raced the 77th Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza in Elgiobar, Spain. Aron finished in 3rd position as the race was won by 17-year-old Ethiopia's Tadese Worku. Aron Kifle was beaten by Kenya's Richard Yator in the final 200 metres to finish 3rd. [14]
On 21 March 2021, Aron won both the 5000m and 10000m at the ENAF Time Trial in Asmara, Eritrea in 14:12.59 and 29:17.14, respectively. On 8 June, Aron raced at the Ethiopian Trials in Hengelo, Netherlands, placing 13th in 28:00.55; [15] the race was won by Ethiopia's Selemon Barega. [16] Aron represented Eritrea at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the men's 10000m, where he placed 12th in 28:04.06. [17] On 18 September in Asmara, Aron won the 5000m at the Eritrean championships in 14:11.57. On 17 October, Aron raced at the Barcelona Half Marathon, where he placed 4th in 1:00:53. Next, Aron competed in cross country in Spain; on 14 November, Aron won the Cross de Atapuerca. The next weekend on 21 November, Aron placed 4th at the Cross de Italica, while Rodrigue Kwizera who was second at Cross de Atapuerca won. [18]

Kenenisa Bekele Beyecha is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He was the world record holder in both the 5000-metre and 10000-metre from 2004 (5,000m) and 2005 (10,000m) until 2020. He won the gold medal in both the 5000 m and 10,000 m events at the 2008 Summer Olympics. At the 2004 Olympics, he won the gold medal in the 10,000 m and the silver medal in the 5000 m.
Haile Gebrselassie is an Ethiopian former long-distance track, road running athlete, and businessman. He won two Olympic gold medals and four World Championship titles over the 10,000 metres. Haile triumphed in the Berlin Marathon four times consecutively and also had three straight wins at the Dubai Marathon. Further to this, he earned four world titles indoors and was the 2001 World Half Marathon Champion.
Zersenay Tadese Habtesilase is a retired Eritrean long-distance track and road running athlete. He held the men's half marathon world record from 2010 to 2018. His bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2004 Athens Olympics made him the first ever Eritrean Olympic medallist, and his 20-km title at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships also made him the country's first athlete to win at a world championship event. He does not use a sprint finish to win races; his strategy relies on a combination of efficient running and fast pace setting.
The 10,000 metres or the 10,000-metre run is a common long-distance track running event. The event is part of the athletics programme at the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships, and is common at championship level events. The race consists of 25 laps around an Olympic-sized track. It is less commonly held at track and field meetings, due to its duration. The 10,000-metre track race is usually distinguished from its road running counterpart, the 10K run, by its reference to the distance in metres rather than kilometres.
Yonas Andebrhan Kifle is an Eritrean runner who specializes in the 10,000 metres, the marathon and cross-country running. He has represented Eritrea at the Olympics on four occasions; in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012. He has also competed at World Championship-level in cross country, road running, and on the track indoors and outdoors.
Genzebe Dibaba Keneni is an Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner. A 1500 metres 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist, she won a gold medal in this event and a bronze in the 5000 metres at the 2015 World Championships. Genzebe is the current world record holder for the 1500m, and the indoor events of the one mile, 3000m and 5000m. She holds the distinction of possessing the most world records by one woman in track history, with her current haul of four, plus two world bests.
Samuel Tsegay Tesfamriam is an Eritrean long-distance runner running for the Swedish track club Hälle IF and currently going through the process of acquiring Swedish citizenship, who specializes in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. He was born in Eritrea. As a junior, he competed in the junior races at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, finishing seventeenth in 2005, eighth in 2006 and eighth in 2007. He finished fourth in the 10,000 metres at the 2006 World Junior Championships.

Belaynesh Oljira Jemama is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes mainly in 10K and half marathon races. She represented her country at the 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2013 World Championships and the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2011 and 2013.
Abera Kuma Lema is an Ethiopian long distance runner, who competes in track, cross country, and road running events. An African junior champion over 5000 m, he won his first senior international medal at the 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
Suguru Osako is a Japanese long-distance runner. He won the 10,000 metres gold medal at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen and holds the Asian junior record for the half marathon. He held the Japanese National Record for the marathon of 2:05:29 set at the 2020 Tokyo Marathon, where he finished fourth.
Nguse Tesfaldet Amlosom is an Eritrean long-distance runner. He competed in the 10,000 m event at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics and placed 15th and 9th, respectively.
Birhanu Balew is an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner representing Bahrain. He reached the final of the 5000 m event at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Jacob Kiplimo is a Ugandan long-distance runner. He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic 10,000 metres bronze medallist and also won bronze in the event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. Kiplimo earned gold medals for the 5000 metres and 10,000 m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He is the 2020 World Half Marathon champion. He won silver and gold medal at the 2019 and 2023 World Cross Country Championships respectively. Kiplimo is the world record holder for the half marathon, which he set on 21 November 2021 in Lisbon with a time of 57:31.
Yemaneberhan "Yeman" Crippa is an Ethiopian-born Italian long-distance runner. He won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres and bronze for the 5000 metres at the European Athletics Championships in 2022, and bronze in the 10,000 m in 2018. Crippa claimed four medals in the age-group races at the European Cross Country Championships and a bronze in the senior race in 2019.
Selemon Barega Shirtaga is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a silver for the 5000 metres at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. Barega is a two-time 3000 metres World Indoor Championship medallist, taking silver in 2018, and a gold in 2022.
The men's 10,000 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 30 July 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. 25 athletes competed. None of the 2016 medalists took part in the competition. Selemon Barega from Ethiopia won the event, with Ugandans Joshua Cheptegei, the world record holder, and Jacob Kiplimo coming second and third, respectively. All of them won their first Olympic medal.

Haimro Alame is an Ethiopian-born Israeli runner. In the 2014 European Team Championships he took second in the 5000 metres, and in the 2015 European Games in Baku, he came in third in the 5000 m. Alame was as of 2018 the Israeli record holder at 10,000 metres. He qualified in the marathon to represent Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
