The Assamese Wikipedia is the Assamese language edition of Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Its domain came into existence on June 2, 2002. In July 2015, it had reached 3,600 articles. [2] [3]

It now has 12,607 articles with 40,015 registered users.

The first Assamese Wikipedia workshop was organized in Guwahati University on January 29, 2012, and later another on February 1, 2012, at the Tezpur University in Tezpur to inform people how to edit and add to the wiki. Later on, many other workshops have been organized by community members in different places in Assam. [4] [5] [6] [7]

Considered a doyen of the Culture of Assam, the Assamese people affectionately call him Kalaguru. Chandraprabha Saikiani or Chandraprava Saikiani was an Assamese freedom fighter, activist, writer and social reformer considered to be the pioneer of the feminist movement in Assam. She was the founder of The All Assam Pradeshik Mahila Samiti, a non governmental organization working for the welfare of the women of Assam and was a recipient of the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri for the year 1972 from the Government of India. Three decades later, the Indian government issued a commemorative stamp on Saikiani under the series, Social Reformers, in 2002.

Gonit Sora is a multi-lingual web magazine devoted to publishing well written and original articles related to science and technology in general and mathematics in particular. Gonit Sora is an attempt to bridge the gap between classroom mathematics teaching and real life practical and fun mathematics. The website strives for the popularization of mathematics teaching and understanding at all levels. The name of the website is in Assamese and means ‘gateway to mathematics’. Founded on 21 April 2011 by two alumni of Tezpur University, the website publishes expository articles, interviews and quizzes.

Assam – 16th largest, 15th most populous and 26th most literate state of the 28 states of the democratic Republic of India. Assam is at 14th position in life expectancy and 8th in female-to-male sex ratio. Assam is the 21st most media exposed states in India. The Economy of Assam is largely agriculture based with 69% of the population engaged in it. Growth rate of Assam's income has not kept pace with that of India's during the Post-British Era; differences increased rapidly since the 1970s. While the Indian economy grew at 6 percent per annum over the period of 1981 to 2000, the same of Assam's grew only by 3.3 percent.

Santali language's own alphabet, Ol Chiki, has been used as the alphabet of this Wikipedia. Santali is a language in the Munda subfamily of Austroasiatic languages, spoken by around 7.4 million people in South Asia.
