The Breton Wikipedia (Breton : Wikipedia e brezhoneg) is the Breton language version of Wikipedia, run by the Wikimedia Foundation.

History

The Breton Wikipedia was established in June 2004. As of August 2008 it had over 20,000 articles, making it the 56th largest Wikipedia by article count. It reached 30,000 articles [1] on 25 October 2009, ranking 51st out of the 250 Wikipedia editions. As of February 2010, it had over 31,000 articles, making it the 52nd largest Wikipedia by article count, and as of April 2011, it had over 37,000 articles, making it the 52nd largest Wikipedia by article count. In July 2014, the encyclopedia reached 50,000 articles, becoming the 71st largest Wikipedia by article count.

On 1 January 2017 it had just over 60,000 articles, making it the 73rd largest Wikipedia by article count. It is also the second largest Wikipedia edition in a Celtic language, after the Welsh Wikipedia but ahead of the Irish Wikipedia (even though that language has far more speakers).

The articles are written in the Peurunvan orthography. Some Diwan students contributed [2] founding Wikipedian clubs.

The French Wikipedia is the French-language edition of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. This edition was started on 23 March 2001, two months after the official creation of Wikipedia. It has 2,585,943 articles as of 22 January 2024, making it the fourth-largest Wikipedia overall, after the English-, Cebuano- and German-language editions, and is the largest Wikipedia edition in a Romance language. It has the third-most edits, and ranks 6th in terms of depth among Wikipedias. In July 2013 it reached 50,000 articles and is now the 41st largest Wikipedia edition. The Irish Wikipedia is the Irish-language version of Wikipedia, run by the Wikimedia Foundation and established in October 2003, with the first article being written in January 2004. The founder of Vicipéid was Gabriel Beecham. In September 2005 over 1600 articles had been written, with 173 contributors having written material. By March 2007, about 20 regular Wikipedians were writing articles, with up to 7,000 articles having been created. In February 2021, it was just under the 55,000 article mark, making it the 94th largest Wikipedia by article count.

The Asturian Wikipedia is the Asturian language edition of Wikipedia started in July 2004. As of 22 January 2024, the Asturian Wikipedia has 133,689 articles, making it the 67th-largest Wikipedia. It also has 120,510 registered users, most of them global accounts created automatically, since the monthly active users amount to 125 of which 8 are administrators. It has 4,121,420 edits. The Asturian Wikipedia ranks 16th among Wikipedias by articles per speaker population.

A majority were generated by Lsjbot, a bot, or software application. The administrators on the Swedish Wikipedia are elected for a fixed-term period of one year and have to be re-elected after that time.
