The Breton Wikipedia (Breton : Wikipedia e brezhoneg) is the Breton language version of Wikipedia, run by the Wikimedia Foundation.
The Breton Wikipedia was established in June 2004. As of August 2008 it had over 20,000 articles, making it the 56th largest Wikipedia by article count. It reached 30,000 articles [1] on 25 October 2009, ranking 51st out of the 250 Wikipedia editions. As of February 2010, it had over 31,000 articles, making it the 52nd largest Wikipedia by article count, and as of April 2011, it had over 37,000 articles, making it the 52nd largest Wikipedia by article count. In July 2014, the encyclopedia reached 50,000 articles, becoming the 71st largest Wikipedia by article count.
On 1 January 2017 it had just over 60,000 articles, making it the 73rd largest Wikipedia by article count. It is also the second largest Wikipedia edition in a Celtic language, after the Welsh Wikipedia but ahead of the Irish Wikipedia (even though that language has far more speakers).
The articles are written in the Peurunvan orthography. Some Diwan students contributed [2] founding Wikipedian clubs.
Wikipedia, a free-content online encyclopedia written and maintained by a community of volunteers known as Wikipedians, began with its first edit on 15 January 2001, two days after the domain was registered. It grew out of Nupedia, a more structured free encyclopedia, as a way to allow easier and faster drafting of articles and translations.
The Celtic Revival is a variety of movements and trends in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries that see a renewed interest in aspects of Celtic culture. Artists and writers drew on the traditions of Gaelic literature, Welsh-language literature, and Celtic art—what historians call insular art. Although the revival was complex and multifaceted, occurring across many fields and in various countries in Northwest Europe, its best known incarnation is probably the Irish Literary Revival. Irish writers including William Butler Yeats, Lady Gregory, "Æ" Russell, Edward Martyn, Alice Milligan and Edward Plunkett stimulated a new appreciation of traditional Irish literature and Irish poetry in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The French Wikipedia is the French-language edition of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. This edition was started on 23 March 2001, two months after the official creation of Wikipedia. It has 2,585,943 articles as of 22 January 2024, making it the fourth-largest Wikipedia overall, after the English-, Cebuano- and German-language editions, and is the largest Wikipedia edition in a Romance language. It has the third-most edits, and ranks 6th in terms of depth among Wikipedias. It was also the third edition, after the English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia, to exceed 1 million articles: this occurred on 23 September 2010. In April 2016, the project had 4657 active editors who made at least five edits in that month.
The Portuguese Wikipedia is the Portuguese language edition of Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It was started on 11 May 2001.
The Dutch Wikipedia is the Dutch-language edition of the free online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. It was founded on 19 June 2001.
The Italian Wikipedia is the Italian-language edition of Wikipedia. This edition was created on May 11, 2001, and first edited on June 11, 2001. As of January 27, 2024, it has 1,845,208 articles and more than 2,475,321 registered accounts. It is the 9th-largest Wikipedia by the number of articles.
There are two Norwegian language editions of Wikipedia: one for articles written in Bokmål or Riksmål, and one for articles written in Nynorsk or Høgnorsk. There are currently 621,253 articles on the Norwegian Wikipedia edition in Bokmål/Riksmål, and 168,462 articles on the Nynorsk edition.
The Ukrainian Wikipedia is the Ukrainian language edition of the free online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. The first article was written on January 30, 2004. As of January 2024, the Ukrainian Wikipedia has 1,307,209 articles and is the 14th largest Wikipedia edition.
The Bulgarian Wikipedia is the Bulgarian-language edition of Wikipedia. It was founded on 6 December 2003, and on 12 June 2015 it passed the 200,000 articles threshold. It is written in the Bulgarian (Cyrillic) Alphabet. As of 22 January 2024, it has 295,690 articles and is the 40th largest Wikipedia edition.
The Catalan Wikipedia is the Catalan-language edition of the Wikipedia free online encyclopedia. It was created on March 16, 2001, just a few minutes after the first non-English Wikipedia, the German edition. With more than 742,000 articles, it is currently the 20th-largest Wikipedia as measured by the number of articles, and the fifth-largest Wikipedia in a Romance language. In April 2016, the project had 582 active editors who made at least five edits in that month. The edition is most notable for its large number of quality articles, which illustrates the Catalan language's important online presence despite being a minority language.
The Greek Wikipedia is the Greek-language edition of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. It was started on December 1, 2002. It surpassed the 10,000 article mark on May 16, 2006, the 100,000 article mark on April 9, 2014, and the 200,000 article mark on November 27, 2021. As of January 22, 2024, it is the 49th largest Wikipedia, behind Kazakh and ahead of Minangkabau.
The Welsh Wikipedia is the Welsh-language edition of Wikipedia. This edition was started in July 2003. On 23 June 2007, it reached 10,000 articles, the 66th Wikipedia to do so. On 20 November 2008, it attained 20,000 articles. Less than a year later, on 28 October 2009, it reached 25,000 articles. In July 2013 it reached 50,000 articles and is now the 41st largest Wikipedia edition. It is the only internet resource of its kind in Welsh and has an average of 2.7 million hits every month, making it the most popular Welsh language website. It, therefore, has an important place in Welsh language online culture.
The Basque Wikipedia is the Basque language edition of Wikipedia. Founded on December 6, 2001, although its main page was created in November 2003, it reached 58,124 articles by August 19, 2010, making it the 45th-largest Wikipedia. As of January 2024, it has 487 active contributors, of which 12 are administrators, and has about 426,000 articles.
The Irish Wikipedia is the Irish-language version of Wikipedia, run by the Wikimedia Foundation and established in October 2003, with the first article being written in January 2004. The founder of Vicipéid was Gabriel Beecham. In September 2005 over 1600 articles had been written, with 173 contributors having written material. By March 2007, about 20 regular Wikipedians were writing articles, with up to 7,000 articles having been created. In February 2021, it was just under the 55,000 article mark, making it the 94th largest Wikipedia by article count.
The Tamil Wikipedia is the Tamil language edition of Wikipedia established in September 2003, run by the Wikimedia Foundation. The Tamil Wikipedia is the second largest Wikipedia among Indian languages and the 60th largest Wikipedia by article count(As of 27 January 2024). It is also the first and only Wikipedia of Dravidian origin to possess more than 150,000+ articles. The project is one of the leading Wikipedia among other South Asian language Wikipedia's in various quality matrices. It has 162,259 articles and 228,819 registered users as of January 2024. It crossed 100,000 articles in May 2017.
The Asturian Wikipedia is the Asturian language edition of Wikipedia started in July 2004. As of 22 January 2024, the Asturian Wikipedia has 133,689 articles, making it the 67th-largest Wikipedia. It also has 120,510 registered users, most of them global accounts created automatically, since the monthly active users amount to 125 of which 8 are administrators. It has 4,121,420 edits. The Asturian Wikipedia ranks 16th among Wikipedias by articles per speaker population.
The Swedish Wikipedia is the Swedish-language edition of Wikipedia and was started on the 23 of May 2001. It is currently the fifth largest Wikipedia by article count with its 2,574,953 current articles, it has a Wikipedia article depth of 17.46. A majority were generated by Lsjbot, a bot, or software application. The administrators on the Swedish Wikipedia are elected for a fixed-term period of one year and have to be re-elected after that time.
The Spanish Wikipedia is a Spanish-language edition of Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia. It has 1,926,373 articles. Started in May 2001, it reached 100,000 articles on March 8, 2006, and 1,000,000 articles on May 16, 2013. It is the 8th-largest Wikipedia as measured by the number of articles and has the 4th-most edits. It also ranks 12th in terms of article depth among Wikipedias.
The Waray Wikipedia is the Waray language edition of Wikipedia. It is hosted on servers run by the Wikimedia Foundation since September 25, 2005. As of January 21, 2024, this edition has 1,266,377 articles and is the 16th largest Wikipedia edition. The Waray Wikipedia has very few active users (69), and instead owes its large size to automatically generated articles created by bots, most of them by Sverker Johansson's Lsjbot.
The Cebuano Wikipedia is the Cebuano-language edition of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. Despite being the second-largest Wikipedia in numbers of articles, it has a small community of only 191 active users; nearly all of the 6,121,888 articles were initially created through automatic programs, most notably Sverker Johansson's Lsjbot.
