The event was won by Australian Warwick Selvey with a throw of 185 ft 3+1⁄2 in (56.48 m), setting a new Games and Australian record. Selvey won by 12 ft 9+1⁄2 in (3.90 m) ahead of Scotsman Mike Lindsay and England's John Sheldrick who won the bronze medal. [1]

Leonard Peter "Len" Vlahov was an Australian track and field athlete who specialised in the discus. He was the national champion in 1969 and 1975, and represented Australia at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the 1967 Summer Universiade.
