Avianna Chao (born May 3, 1975) is a Chinese-born Canadian sport shooter. [2] She is a gold medalist in the sport pistol at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Chao, a native of Wuhan, China, emigrated to Canada at the age of eleven. Her mother Lien Chao is a graduate of Canadian literature and English language at York University in Toronto, and also, a popular poet and author for numerous literary works, including The Maples and the Stream and The Chinese Knot. Chao started out her shooting career in 2001 to support her fiance Patrick Haynes (now working as her personal coach), who was trying out for the national team. She claimed numerous shooting titles at the Canadian national championships, and consequently, achieved a fourth-place finish in the women's sport pistol at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with a score of 666.8 points. [1] She also captured a bronze medal in the pistol shooting pairs, along with her partner Kim Eagles, at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, posting a combined score of 1,130 points. In 2007, Chao reached her breakthrough season in shooting, when she won a gold medal for the women's air pistol (AP40) at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accumulating a score of 468.9 targets (372 in the preliminary rounds and 96.9 in the final). [6] Following her success from these games, Chao earned a spot on the Canadian shooting team for the Olympics. [7]
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Chao competed only in two pistol shooting events. She placed thirty-ninth out of forty-four shooters in the women's 10 m air pistol, with a total score of 370 points. [8] [9] Three days later, Chao competed for her second event, 25 m pistol, where she was able to shoot 277 targets in the precision stage, and 281 in the rapid fire, for a total score of 558 points, finishing only in forty-first place. The women's 10 metre air pistol shooting event at the 2011 Pan American Games was held on October 16 at the Pan American Shooting Polygon in Guadalajara. The defending Pan American Games champion was Avianna Chao of Canada, but she did not participate.
Carmen Elena Malo Merchán is an Ecuadorian pistol shooter, who competed at three Olympic games. Malo made her official Olympic debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she finished twenty-first in the women's 10 m air pistol, with a score of 378 points, tying her position with Albania's Djana Mata, and Germany's Anke Völker, wife of multiple-time Olympic medalist Ralf Schumann.
Svetlana Alekseyevna Smirnova is a Russian sport shooter. She won two medals, as a member of the Soviet Union shooting team, at the 1987 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and at the 1990 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Moscow, Russia. She also captured a total of 26 medals, and set a world record of 493 points at the ISSF World Cup.
Rebecca Nicole "Beki" Snyder is a Canadian-born American sport shooter. She is a four-time Olympian, and won a silver medal for pistol shooting at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was also a resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Luisa Cristina del Rosario Maida Leiva is a Salvadoran sport shooter. She won two medals, silver and bronze, for the 10 and 25 m pistol events at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lee Dae-myung is a South Korean sport shooter. He won a silver medal in the men's 50 m free pistol at the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Munich, Germany, accumulating a score of 665.2 targets. He also captured two more gold medals for air pistol shooting at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, and at the 2012 ISSF World Cup in Sydney, Australia, with scores of 685.8 and 691.3 points, respectively.
Lee Ho-lim is a South Korean sport shooter. She won a gold medal in the women's air pistol at the 2005 ISSF World Cup in Milan, Italy, accumulating a score of 485.9 targets. She also captured a bronze medal for the women's 25 m sport pistol at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, with a score of 782.4 points.
Michiko Hasegawa-Fukushima is a Japanese sport shooter. Fukushima had won a total of nine medals for both air and sport pistol at the ISSF World Cup series. She also captured two medals in the same events at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul, South Korea.
Júlio Antonio de Souza e Almeida is a Brazilian sport shooter. Almeida had won a total of four medals in pistol shooting at the Pan American Games. He also captured a silver and a bronze medal in centre-fire and standard pistol at the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Munich, Germany, with scores of 586 and 574, respectively.
María del Pilar Fernández Julián is a Spanish sport shooter. Fernandez had won a total of nine medals in both air and sport pistol at the ISSF World Cup series.
Sandra Kolly is a Swiss sport shooter. She won two medals, gold and bronze, in both air and sport pistol at the 2008 ISSF World Cup series in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accumulating scores of 484.8 and 784 points, respectively. Kolly is also a member of Pistolenlub Giffers and is coached and trained by Alfons Rumons.
Tsogbadrakh Mönkhzul is a Mongolian sport shooter. She won a gold medal in the women's sport pistol at the 2007 ISSF World Cup series in Bangkok, Thailand, accumulating a score of 783.3 points.
Maura Genovesi is an Italian sport shooter. She won a silver medal in women's sport pistol at the 2008 ISSF World Cup series in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accumulating a score of 784.9 points. Genovesi is a member of the shooting team for Gruppo Sportivo Forestale, and is coached and trained by Aldo Andreotti.
Malaika Goel is an Indian shooter. She won the silver medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the youngest medallist.
Amanda Haydee Mondol Cuellar is a Colombian sport shooter. She earned a silver medal in the air pistol at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was selected to compete for Colombia, as the oldest female athlete, at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Mondol is also a full-time member of Target Shooting Club in her native Bogotá, under her personal coach Luis Boduero.
Francis Gorrin is a Venezuelan sport shooter. She claimed the gold medal in the air pistol at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was selected to compete for Venezuela at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Margarita Tarradell Asencio is a Cuban sport shooter. She has competed for Cuba in pistol shooting at three Olympics, and has produced an illustrious career tally of fifteen medals in a major international competition, a total of four at the Pan American Games, a total of five at the American Championships, and a total of six at numerous meets of the ISSF World Cup series.

Manu Bhaker OLY is an Indian sport shooter and Olympic medalist. She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She secured a bronze in the women's 10 metre air pistol event, becoming the first female Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal. Subsequently, she earned another bronze medal in the mixed 10 metre air pistol team event, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics.
Kim Eagles is a Canadian sport shooter. Eagles won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in the 10 metre air pistol event. She also participated in the 2000 Summer Olympics in the 10 metre air pistol event.
