Bacillus horikoshii is a obligate aerobe bacterium. [1] It is a gram positive, alkaliphilic and alkalitolerant, aerobic endospore-forming bacteria.

This species has been recently transferred into the genus Sutcliffiella. [2] The correct nomenclature is Sutcliffiella horikoshii.
