The Bahrain national ice hockey team (Arabic : منتخب البحرين لهوكي الجليد) is the national men's ice hockey team of Bahrain.

History

Bahrain played its first international game in a 2010 friendly game against Kuwait in which they lost, 10–3. The following year, Bahrain competed in the Premier Division of the 2011 Asian Winter Games. In the first two games they were beaten by Malaysia (25–0) and by Thailand (29–0). They finished the tournament losing all six of their games and placing last on the table. [1] In 2012, Bahrain competed at the 2012 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. The team finished last after losing the bronze medal game against Oman. [2]

After ten years of inactivity, Bahrain returned to competition at the 2022 GCC Games, where they lost all three games against the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. [3]

Bahrain had the longest losing streak of 18 games and had not won its first game until 7 May 2023, they defeated Algeria 6–5 in overtime in their first game at the 2023 Arab Cup. Russian-born Bahraini forward Zakhar Zakharov, who played 49 games in the MHL with Sarmaty Orenburg, [4] recorded his first hat-trick by scoring three goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime.

In September 2024, Bahrain was added as a full member by the IIHF. [5]

The Bahrain national football team represents Bahrain in international football and is controlled by the Bahrain Football Association, which was founded in 1951 and joined FIFA in 1966. They have never reached the World Cup, but have twice come within one match of doing so. Bahrain won the FIFA's most improved team award in 2004, and finished fourth in the 2004 Asian Cup, beating Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals but losing to Japan in the semi-finals 4–3. Bahrain then lost to Iran in the third-place match, thus finishing in fourth place overall. Bahrain had a golden year in 2019, winning both the WAFF Championship and the Arabian Gulf Cup for the first time, under the stewardship of Hélio Sousa.

The Gulf Ice Hockey Championship, also known as the GCC Gulf Ice Hockey Championships, is an international ice hockey competition involving countries from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The inaugural tournament took place on May 25 to May 30 in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and was organized by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association. The championship has featured teams from six countries since its formation and currently consists of Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates has won all four editions of the championship, while Kuwait has finished second on three occasions and Qatar on one.

The 2011 IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was the 4th IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, an annual international ice hockey tournament held by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It took place between April 25 and April 30, 2011 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Last years winner, Chinese Taipei did not field a team to defend their title. The tournament was won by Hong Kong, who claimed their first title after winning all five of their games.

The Uzbekistan national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of Uzbekistan. The team belongs to the Uzbekistan Ice Hockey Federation and has been an associate member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since 26 September 2019. Uzbekistan is currently not ranked in the IIHF World Ranking and has not entered in any IIHF World Championship events, nor at the Olympic Games, but played in three Winter Spartakiads from 1978 to 1986.

The 2012 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the second Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 28 May and 1 June 2012 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Kuwait in the gold medal game, claiming their second title of the championships. Oman finished third after defeating Bahrain in the bronze medal game.

The 2016 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the fourth Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 28 January and 2 February 2016 in Doha, Qatar. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Qatar in the gold medal game, claiming their fourth title of the championships. Kuwait finished third after defeating Oman in the bronze medal game.

The Philippines national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of the Philippines. They are controlled by the Federation of Ice Hockey League (FIHL) and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since May 20, 2016. Prior to that period, a national team has played in regional tournaments in Hong Kong since the 2000s.

The GCC Games is a regional multi-sport event which involves participants from the Gulf Cooperation Council region. The GCC Games, a quadrennial multi-sport event, was established by the union and first held in 2011. There are numerous long-running GCC Championships for individual sports, including: the Gulf Cooperation Council Athletics Championships football, Archery, athletics, Badminton, sailing, basketball, Swimming, Marathon Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, tennis, gymnastics, weightlifting, futsal, snooker, Cycling, Chess and table tennis. The 3rd edition of the game had to be organized in June 2019, but held in 2022 due to the internal issues between the GCC state countries. The 4th edition has been announced and will happen as per the announced dates. For the first time the games will be organized by the new, young and talented faces of GCC team.

The Kuwait women's national ice hockey team is the ice hockey team representing Kuwait internationally in women's competition. The team is overseen by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The team was formed in 2017 and currently competes in the IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia Division I tournament.
