Balamurali Balu is an Indian film music director and lyricist who has worked predominantly in the Tamil film industry. His first movie was Madhiyal Vell and composed music for Pallu Padama Paathuka . Subsequently, he composed music for Peechankai . This critically acclaimed film [1] was Balu's debut as a composer. He was praised for "adding the quirkiness" [2] to the music aligning with the theme of the movie's script.

Early life

Balu is a professional music composer in South India. He has also worked as a music director and a film score composer. Balu was born on the 16th of July and was raised in Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. Prior to his music career, Balu completed his PhD from Georgia Tech in chemical engineering in 2009 [3] and worked as a Process Engineer with Intel Technologies. [4] He is also an alumni from the Berklee College of Music. [5] He entered the music industry through Tamil cinema since 2016.

Career

In 2017, Balu got his first chance in the Tamil film industry when he was offered an opportunity to score music for the movie Peechankai . The music was well-received and appreciated for adding value to the quirkiness of the script. [6] [2] He won the Best Music Producer Award in the Regional Film Category at the Indian Recording Artists Association Awards 2018 for the movie. [1]

In 2018, Balu joined hands with director Santhosh P. Jayakumar to score music for the film Hara Hara Mahadevaki , which starred Gautham Karthik. The music created a lot of attention, especially with the title song "Hara Hara Mahadevaki" becoming a viral hit. [7] With the success of Hara Hara Mahadevaki, Balu continued with Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu , his second collaboration with Jayakumar and Gautham Karthik. He later composed the biographical film Traffic Ramasamy , based on the life of activist Traffic Ramaswamy. Afterwards, Balu collaborated with Jayakumar for the third time with the Arya-starrer Ghajinikanth , a remake of the Telugu film Bhale Bhale Magadivoy .

In 2019, Balu composed music for Chikati Gadilo Chithakotudu , the Telugu remake of Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu, which marked his Telugu film debut. In 2022, Balu produced the soundtrack for Kuthukku Pathu , a comedy-drama web series.

Madan under the banner Escape Artists Motion Pictures and RS Infotainment, the film was distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. The story was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Ye Maaya Chesave, starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, however, with a different cast.

Ye Maaya Chesave is the soundtrack album of the 2010 Telugu romantic drama film of the same name, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The original score and songs were composed by A. R. Rahman; Lyrics are penned by Anantha Sreeram, along with Kalyani Menon and Kaithapram, the latter penning the Malayalam lyrics in the album. This is the sixth time that A. R. Rahman composed music for a direct Telugu film and the fourth time that he composed the entire soundtrack for a Telugu film. This also marked Rahman's comeback into Telugu cinema after six years. Ye Maaya Chesave was one of the most anticipated soundtracks of Rahman.

Produced by Thangam Cinemas and released by Blue Ghost Pictures, the venture began production in November 2016. The film's title is based on a song from Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva (2017).

Peechaankai is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language black comedy film written and directed by Ashok. It became the first Indian film to deal with a rare disease of alien hand syndrome as its main plot point. It starred R. S. Karthik in the lead role while Anjali Rao, M. S. Bhaskar, Vivek Prasanna, and K. S. G. Venkatesh played other pivotal roles. Chikati Gadilo Chithakotudu is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language adult comedy horror film directed by Santhosh P. Jayakumar and starring Adith Arun, Nikki Tamboli, Sayantani Guhathakurta, and Bhagyashree Mote. This film is a remake of the director's own Tamil film Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu (2018) and much of the crew from the original are retained for the remake. This film marks the Telugu debut of Guhathakurta. Rajendran, Jangiri Madhumitha, and K. S. G. Venkatesh, who were a part of the original film, also star. The film released on 21 March 2019.

A spiritual successor to the director's earlier Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu (2018), the film was released on 14 November 2020 and received mixed to negative reviews both from critics and audiences.

Kumar, Anand Babu, Augustine and Dhivakar portraying supporting roles. The film was released theatrically on 3 March 2023.
