The Bang Na–Suvarnabhumi line is a proposed light rail line in Bangkok that would run from Bang Na junction to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The line was first proposed in 1994, but it was not included in the 2005 OTP Mass Rapid Transit Master Plan. Initially, it was planned for the line to potentially be a BTS Sukhumvit Line branch line with turnouts constructed near Bang Na junction. In December 2015, the BMA said it would advance construction and would propose it to cabinet in the near future. [1] In April 2016, deputy governor Amorn Kitchawengkul said the project would take 3–6 years and cost THB 20 billion.
The line would be proposed to be constructed in two phases. Firstly, for 14.7 km to Thana City and then a later 5.1 km extension to the airport. [2] The project would relieve congestion along the busy Bang Na - Trat rd corridor and provide an important southern connection to Suvarnabhumi Airport. [3] Initial forecasts of daily passengers are 56,000 upon opening rising to 139,000 daily when the extension to the airport opens. [4]
In early September 2021, the BMA contracted consultants to undertake a 6-month feasibility study into the line. [5] The feasibility study was completed in March 2022. On 8 April 2022, the BMA deputy permanent secretary conducted a market sounding seminar to detail the project to potential investors and advised that the report would be submitted to the Interior Ministry for endorsement. [6] If the Interior Ministry approves the project it will be submitted to Cabinet for approval in 2023. [7]
The BMA proposes to gain Cabinet approval for the line in 2023 and conduct a tender in 2024 with a suggested three year construction period commencing in 2025 for a targeted opening date of 2029. [8] However, BMA transferred the project to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) on December 27, 2024, as it is believed that consolidating the project under a single owner will enable better control of fare prices, preventing them from becoming excessively high. After the transfer, the MRTA will reassess the project to determine the feasibility of further construction.
This section starts at the Sunphawut road (in front of MEA Bang Na District, Bang Na District Office, and Phra Khanong Provincial Court), runs along the said road, pass Bang Na intersection, above the outbound Debaratana road's median, pass across Si Iam interchange which connects to MRTA Yellow Line, over the Kingkaew interchange which is a transfer point to Kingkaew-Suvarnabhumi Monorail, and terminate at Thana City. This section's ending terminus is at the 13th km of Debaratana road and the depot of the line itself. There will be a 46,400 sq.m. depot at Thana City, which the BMA will purchase from U City Public Co. Ltd., the owner of Thana City project. [9]
The line continues from the Thana City and passes Central Village and Krirk University before crossing Nong Prue and Nong Ngu Hao canal. The terminus is the future south terminal of Suvarnabhumi Airport which has not yet started construction. However, AoT has modified the terminal to give the line direct access to the passenger building, unlike Suvarnabhumi ARL Station which was built in an unused Novotel Suvarnabhumi walkway.
The line initially appeared on the 1994 Mass Rapid Transit Master Plan (MTMP), before it was further improved in the 1996 CTMP. It was an extension to the Tanayong SkyTrain until it was canceled when Urban Rail Transportation Master Plan in Bangkok and Surrounding Areas (URMAP) was developed in 2000. Then, in a 2004 OTP meeting, it was decided that the route needed to be expanded to meet the need of the expanding Bangkok. The route was finally determined to terminate at the Sri Iam interchange and Suvarnabhumi Airport. However, the line was not included in the 2005 OTP Mass Rapid Transit Master Plan.
When the BTS Sukhumvit Line extension from On Nut to Bearing was completed in August 2011. provision was made with turnouts constructed near Bang Na junction for a future BTS spur line from Bang Na junction to the airport. However, the BMA later decided that the line would be a separate light-rail line.

[11] The consultants would evaluate a PPP framework for the project and conduct market sounding seminars as part of the study. [12] The line would be proposed to be constructed in two phases. On 8 April 2022, the BMA deputy permanent secretary conducted a market sounding seminar to detail the project to potential investors and advised that the report would be submitted to the Interior Ministry for endorsement. [15] The BMA stated that the study concluded that the LRT should have a maximum speed of 80 kilometres/hour with a 30-minute trip time with capacity for 15,000 to 30,000 passengers per hour. If the Interior Ministry approves the project it will be submitted to Cabinet for approval in 2023. [16]
The LRT system will be 1.435 m (standard gauge) with third rail electrification and max speed of 80 kph with automatic signalling system, allowing the round trip in 1 hour. The LRT rolling stock will be 4 car formation able to transport between 15000 - 30000 passengers per hour. The minimum fare is planned to be 14 baht to a maximum 46 baht. [17]
There are 14 stations planned including 13 elevated stations and 1 underground station at the airport. Station names are subject to change. [18] Station codes are still not determined. Each station is planned to be equipped with platform screen doors.

The Bangkok Mass Transit System, commonly known as the BTS Skytrain, is an elevated rapid transit system in Bangkok, Thailand. It is operated by Bangkok Mass Transit System PCL (BTSC), a subsidiary of BTS Group Holdings, under a concession granted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) which owns the lines. The system consists of 62 stations along three lines with a combined route length of 70.05 kilometers (43.53 mi). The BTS Sukhumvit Line runs northwards and south-eastwards, terminating at Khu Khot and Kheha respectively. The BTS Silom Line which serves Silom and Sathon Roads, the central business district of Bangkok, terminates at National Stadium and Bang Wa. The Gold Line people mover runs from Krung Thon Buri to Klong San and serves Iconsiam. The lines interchange at Siam station and Krung Thon Buri. The system is formally known as "The Elevated Train in Commemoration of HM the King's 6th Cycle Birthday".
The Metropolitan Rapid Transit or MRT is a mass rapid transit system serving the Bangkok Metropolitan Region in Thailand. The MRT system comprises two fully operational rapid transit lines and two fully operational monorail lines, with another rapid transit line (Orange) under construction. The MRT Blue Line, officially the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line, between Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue was the first to open in July 2004 as Bangkok's second metro system. The MRT Blue line is officially known in Thai as rotfaifa mahanakhon (รถไฟฟ้ามหานคร) or "metropolitan electric train", but it is more commonly called rotfai taidin (รถไฟใต้ดิน), literally, "underground train" as it was distinguished from the BTS Skytrain by being completely underground when its first section between Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue opened.
The Elevated Train in Commemoration of HM the King's 6th Cycle Birthday 1st line, also known as Sukhumvit Line, is one of the rapid transit lines of the BTS Skytrain System in Bangkok, Thailand. The line runs from Siam Station, where it interchanges with the Silom Line, and continues both northwards along Phaya Thai and Phahon Yothin Roads to Khu Khot in Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani, and eastwards along Rama I, Phloen Chit and Sukhumvit Roads, through Bang Na District to Kheha Station in Samut Prakan.
The Elevated Train in Commemoration of HM the King's 6th Cycle Birthday 2nd line, also known as Silom Line, is one of the rapid transit lines of the BTS Skytrain System in Bangkok, Thailand.The line runs eastward from National Stadium Station in Pathum Wan District over Rama I Road and interchanges with the Sukhumvit Line at Siam station, then turns southward, following Ratchadamri, Si Lom, Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra and Sathon Roads to Taksin Bridge where it crosses the Chao Phraya River to the Thonburi side of Bangkok and Wong Wian Yai. It continues west along the Ratchapruek Road before it terminates at Bang Wa Station in Phasi Charoen District.

The MRT Orange Line is a rapid transit line of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Thailand. The line was originally proposed in 2005 by the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning to be a heavy rail underground line along Lat Phrao road which was then elevated from Lam Sali Intersection to Samrong. However, it was decided in 2012 to build an elevated monorail line for the whole length in order to reduce construction costs.
The MRT Brown Line is a 22.1 km rapid transit line in Bangkok, Thailand proposed monorail mass transit line from Nonthaburi Civic Centre, Nonthaburi Province to Lam Sali intersection, Bang Kapi District. 20 stations are proposed for the line and the expected cost for the project is 48 billion baht. The line has been integrated for 7.2 km with the N2 expressway project and a feasibility study has been completed. The MRT Brown line will interchange with 7 other mass transit lines.
The MRT Pink Line is an elevated monorail train line of the MRT in Bangkok and Nonthaburi Province, Thailand. The monorail line is 34.5 kilometres (21.4 mi) long and has 30 stations. It runs in the northern part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Area from Nonthaburi Civic Center in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi along the major east–west transport corridor of Highway 304 to terminate at Min Buri in Min Buri district in east Bangkok. It opened for free public trial operation on 21 November 2023 with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin taking the inaugural ride.
The SRT Dark Red Line, is part of the SRT Red Line suburban railway system to serve the greater Bangkok Metropolitan Region running for 26 km (16 mi) between Krung Thep Aphiwat and Rangsit.
The SRT Light Red Line, or Nakhon Withi Line is a 15 km (9.3 mi) between Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Taling Chan and is part of the SRT Red Lines suburban railway system serving the greater Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
The MRT Blue Line or MRT Chaloem Ratchamongkon Line is Bangkok's third rapid transit line, following the Sukhumvit line and Silom line of the BTS Skytrain. It is the first line of the MRT system and is operated by Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM). The original 20 km (12.43 mi) MRT Blue Line from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue opened on 3 July 2004. A 1.2 km (0.75 mi) extension to Tao Poon opened on 11 August 2017. The 15.9 km (9.88 mi) western extension to Lak Song opened for full service on 29 September 2019 and the 11 km (6.84 mi) extension from Tao Poon to Tha Phra to form the quasi loop, opened for full service on 30 March 2020.
The Grey Line is a planned monorail line in the north of Bangkok to be built from Watcharaphon to Thong Lo. The route would provide a vital north - south link for a distance of 16.25 km with 15 planned stations and is expected to cost 27 billion baht. The line would support the growth of residential areas around Pradit Monutham Road and Kaset-Namawin road corridors and is forecast to eventually have 370,000 passengers per day. The BMA Grey will interchange with other lines including the MRT Pink Line, the proposed MRT Brown Line, the MRT Yellow Line, MRT Orange Line and BTS Sukhumvit Line.
The Light Blue Line is a planned monorail line to be built in Bangkok, Thailand. Its path runs along a north–south axis. This line would link the Din Daeng housing community areas, Bangkok City Hall 2, Makkasan Station, and the business area along Sathon Road.
The Mass Rapid Transit Master Plan in Bangkok Metropolitan Region, or M-Map, is the latest version in a series of Thai government plans for the development of an urban rail transit network serving the Greater Bangkok area. It was drafted under the care of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) of the Ministry of Transport.
The Gold Line is an automated people mover line, part of Bangkok's rapid transit system. The line is 1.8 km (1.1 mi) long, consisting of 3 stations, and was opened by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on 16 December 2020. It primarily serves as a feeder line between the BTS Silom line and Iconsiam shopping center. The line will be extended 1 km (0.62 mi) along Somdet Chao Phraya road to connect with the future MRT Purple Line southern extension. When completed, it will connect Krung Thon Buri BTS station with Prajadhipok Road in Thon Buri District for a total distance of 2.68 km (1.67 mi).
The Khon Kaen Light Rail Transit Project is a planned 22.6-kilometre (14.0 mi) light rail transit system consisting of an initial 16 stations to serve Khon Kaen Province in north-east Thailand. A Phase 2 3.5-kilometre (2.2 mi) five-station extension is also planned. The line will have both at-grade and elevated sections. Fares are expected to be a flat 15 baht. Construction is set to begin in 2024.
