Batala Railway Station is located in Gurdaspur district in the Indian state of Punjab and serves the industrial town of Batala .
Batala railway station is at an elevation of 247.19 metres (811.0 ft) and was assigned the code – BAT. [1]
The 107 km (66 mi) long 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in)-wide 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) broad gaugeAmritsar–Pathankot line was opened in 1884. [2] It originally belonged to the local government and was transferred to North Western Railway in 1892. [3]
The 39.68 km (25 mi) Qadian–Beas link was approved in 2011. It would provide direct and shorter access from Batala to Ambala–Attari line. [4]
Batala is the eighth largest city in the state of Punjab, India in terms of population after Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda, Mohali and Hoshiarpur. Batala ranks as the second-oldest city after Bathinda. It is a municipal corporation in Gurdaspur district in the Majha region of the state of Punjab. It is located about 32 km from Gurdaspur, the headquarters of the district. It is also a Police district. Batala holds the status of the most populated town of the district with 31% of the district's total population. It is the biggest industrial town in the district.
Martin's Light Railways (MLR) consisted of seven narrow-gauge railway lines in the states of West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India. The railways were built and owned by Martin & Co., which was a British company. Later, it was being operated by Indian government and was permanently shut down in 80's.
