Trujillo is a city in coastal northwestern Peru and the capital of the Department of La Libertad. It is the third most populous city and center of the third most populous metropolitan area of Peru. It is located on the banks of the Moche River, near its mouth at the Pacific Ocean, in the Moche Valley. This was a site of the great prehistoric Moche and Chimu cultures before the Inca conquest and subsequent expansion.
Huanchaco is a popular vacation beach city in province of Trujillo, Peru. Huanchaco is known for its surf breaks, its caballitos de totora and its ceviche, and is near the ancient ruins of Chan Chan. Huanchaco was approved as a World Surfing Reserve by the organization Save The Waves Coalition in 2012 This historic town is part of the tourist circuit called the "Moche Route" or "Ruta Moche".
The Bolivarian Games are a regional multi-sport event held in honor of Simón Bolívar, and organized by the Bolivarian Sports Organization. The event is open to athletes from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. In 2010, the ODEBO decided to include Chile as seventh member of ODEBO. Except Panama, all other participating countries are Andean states.

The 2013 Bolivarian Games, officially the XVII Bolivarian Games, was a major international multi-sport event that was held from November 16–30, 2013, in Trujillo, Peru, with some events held in Lima and Chiclayo. Approximately 4,500 athletes from 11 nations participated in 44 sports. These Games was the third Bolivarian Games that was hosted by Peru. Previously, Peru hosted the 1947–48 Bolivarian Games and the 1997 Bolivarian Games. Since 2011, Trujillo was preparing the sport buildings for the Bolivarian Games.

Carnival of Huanchaco, is a summer festival held each year in Huanchaco, one of the most visited beaches of Trujillo city, in northern Peru. The carnival is renowned for a lack of alcohol and an early finish. Stories of fire parties on the beach are unfounded. It is organized by the Club Huanchaco, consists of several activities including the crowning of the queen, surf contest, luau party, creativity in the sand, championships of Caballito de totora, the carnival parade among others, by 2012 the carnival parade was held on 25 February.

According to a study published in 2010 by the magazine Peru Económico it is one representative mark of the city.
The Sports complex Mansiche is the current home of Trujillo's professional sports teams, a city of northern Peru. This sport complex will be the main site of 2013 Bolivarian Games that will be held in the city in November 2013. It is located near the old and traditional town of San Salvador de Mansiche.

The men's tournament of volleyball at the 2013 Bolivarian Games in Trujillo, Peru was held between November 17 and November 21 at the Coliseo Gran Chimu.
The Women's tournament of volleyball at the 2013 Bolivarian Games in Trujillo, Peru begun on November 24 and ended on November 29. All games were held at the Coliseo Gran Chimu. The defending champions, Peru, won their competitions´s sixth title.
The 2014 Bolivarian Beach Games, officially the II Bolivarian Beach Games, is an international multi-sport event held from December 3-12, 2014 in Huanchaco, Peru. Peru also hosted the inaugural edition in 2012, with Lima as the host city. Athletes from six Bolivarian countries and three invited countries participated in these Games.
